TieDyeDude Sometimes I need a reminder of just how freakin' epic Stairway to Heaven is! I haven't been listening to much classic rock since I don't have radio in my car, just bluetooth. I need to force some changes in my Spotify algorithm 😅 3d

That was, indeed, METAL. As much a love letter to a music genre; and a statement on making art, finding purpose, and the dangers of compromise for fame and profit, of seeking comfort over personal fulfillment; as it was a gory, creepy, violent road trip leading to one hell of a final performance.
A good sprinkling of female rage in there, too, as a treat. 😉 1/?

Robotswithpersonality This is, first and foremost, Kris's journey, horror elements are secondary but no less vivid, in that uncanny way Hendrix has for grossing me out while simultaneously toying with my emotions and stress level. 🫣 2/? 8mo
Robotswithpersonality Did not expect conspiracy theories or UPS to feature so heavily. ?
Love the Hendrix trademark inclusion of mixed media, this time radio show excerpts: news and music reviews.
Holy Shit, do I wish the Troglodyte album was real!

Billypar Great review! Apart from the horror aspects, I love how it portrayed being a music fan - e.g., Troglodyte doesn't just predict the future, it's what Kris summons to get through her ordeal. And the scene in car with the two leads bonding over Dolly Parton let a little light into the otherwise bleak series of events. 8mo

Only A Girl With A Guitar Can Save Us All

Second book choice for #SexDrugsAndRockAndRoll

I actually finished this a couple weeks ago. Not my favorite by Hendrix but still a really good read. Has some creepy moments.

A Faustian tale that isn't really about Faust so much as his bandmate who has to live with the aftermath of his bargain. It's not really about the tragedy of giving into temptation so much as the vacuum of being 'soulless'. When heavy metal becomes nu metal and gets taken over by corporate overlords, it's not mortal sin, just sad. Thankfully this novel has plenty of soul: it's darkly funny and fast-paced 👇

Billypar The ending makes sense logically and isn't weak, but the horror scenes are so unique and effective, I was hoping for a little more of that in the climax. But that's a small point - there's lots to appreciate, including the book itself, all decked out in black pages and red interiors. I'm liking all my picks so far for this series and plan to finally get back on track this month and read the book in its intended month 😸 @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB 9mo
Megabooks Agree! I love how he explored the bargain not from the bargainer‘s perspective. Unique take. 👍🏻 9mo
Billypar @Megabooks Yeah, it didn't even dawn on me until I was writing this review that this was what made it feel so unique. I also enjoyed the special kind of 'punishment' bestowed on Terry in the final pages. 9mo

Finished yesterday, my July #TitlesAndTunes pick for #SexDrugsAndRockNRoll & I loved it! Although metal has never been my thing per se, I did recognize most all of the references that Hendrix does so well. You really have to be okay with gore for his books-although for claustrophobic me, there‘s a part when our MC Kris is trying to get out of a tight underground situation (bats & bugs included) that had me whimpering like a baby in a good way!😱🤣

DebinHawaii Thank you to our hosts @Cinfhen & @BarbaraBB for a fun prompt & making a great playlist. My main pick was Patti Smith‘s (So You Want To Be A (Rock ‘N‘ Roll Star) but Bon Jovi‘s Dead or Alive was a pretty close second. 🎸🎼🎤🖤 https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0EjmJFKQzUikCsGrLXLs6x?si=owgI5t4URXC2snteNevE... This is going to be a good month! I‘m a rocker for sure. I look forward to reading Ronnie James Dino‘s autobiography…he who literally invented 🤘🏻. I have a good stash of rock memoirs ahead. #titlesandtunes #sexdrugsandrockandroll Can‘t Wait! My song choice is the title track Holy Diver. @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB

Quite behind on this past month's read, so just starting it now, but when does that ever affect choosing a next read?
I decided to go with a double-Hendrix for my pick this month. Grady has long been on my list of authors to try - I've read Paperbacks from Hell but never any of his novels. Message to Love is from Jimi's live album Band of Gypsys, one of my favorites from college. It's chock full of solos 🎸

BarbaraBB I‘m so glad you added Jimi 🖤 (edited) 10mo

Billypar @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen Looking forward to seeing the full playlist! And to adding some rock memoirs to my TBR. 10mo
Billypar @DebinHawaii I'll look out for your review! 😈🎸 10mo
Billypar @batsy I keep vaguely considering him for a Halloween season read, but I shouldn't be saving all my horror for October anyhow. 10mo

Early to the party for once! My #TitlesAndTunes July pick for #SexDrugsAndRockNRoll is the tagged book because it‘s been loaded on my Kindle for ages now. For my song, I‘m going with the Patti Smith Group version of (So You Want to Be A) Rock ‘N‘ Roll Star. 🎶🎤🎸🖤

Cinfhen Love it! I‘m so amped for July‘s playlist 🤘🏼🎵❣️ 10mo
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen Me too! So many good songs. I had to toss a coin between this one & Bon Jovi Dead or Alive. 10mo

Bailedbailed

Nope, couldn‘t do it. I read about 150 pages because it was my #lmpbc book but ultimately I‘m bailing. It‘s me, not the book. I don‘t get any of the music references and parts of it are making me feel sick. But I think my other group members liked it a lot more, and I think for the right reader it would be great!
