"Your baby's brain doubles in size during the first year of life. This extraordinary brain growth is, according to Dr. Allan Schore, a professor of interpersonal neurobiology at the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, "experience dependent" -- that is "reliant on social interaction" with the mother."

"For the first few weeks it may seem like a baby does nothing but eat, poop, and sleep. But the truth is very different; an infant is creating 40,000 synapses (connections between neurons in the brain) per second."

• Reading this passage and knowing there's so much #truth here. My 8-month old clings desperately to me like his life depends on it...because it does •

We went on to observe and film human mothers and their infants in their home environment in the Netherlands.

Out of this analysis emerged the notion of what we now know as "developmental leaps." The data showed clear phases of "regression" in independence --difficult phases when the baby clings more closely to the mother, when they want to be nursed more often, and let out "whimpering sounds" more frequently than before.

Check...check...and check

• Not a single baby escapes, the book says, and mine is no exception. Here's a tentative forecast chart that means more to me than the actual weather forecast ☀️⛅️⛈🌪Parenting is hard, y'all, don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Good night, friends •
