pickI loved this series almost as much as the Pern books. If you don't know Anne McCaffrey, she's one of my favorite commercial SF/F authors of all time. The woman knew how to tell a story. I decided when I was a teen that I wanted to be a fantasy writer since I couldn't grow up to be a dragon rider, and writing fantasy novels seemed like the next best thing.
