This is probably one of my favorites by Stephen King. Some of the scenes in this book will stick in my head for the rest of my life and haunt me. This was such an excellent book and so underrated. I remember watching the movie when it came out and reading the book years ago but I am glad I revisited and read it again to remind myself of the story. Definitely one of my top favorites by him.

TieDyeDude This may have been the first King book I read. My mom had the original 6 volumes (which I stole when I moved out and still have), which made it a little less intimidating. 1mo
Victoriahoperose @TieDyeDude absolutely!! I completely agree. 1mo
ElizaMarie One of my favorites! How was the audio? I had read it in the original monthly novellas. But.. this is one I want to revisit. 1mo

Victoriahoperose @ElizaMarie absolutely 💯💯💯 recommend the audio. I felt like I was totally in it again. It was excellent. Highly recommend. 1mo
RaeLovesToRead Haven't read the book, but there is a scene in the film that was so powerfully upsetting that I can't watch it again 1mo
Victoriahoperose @RaeLovesToRead yes. That was hard and it‘s crazy because I was reading it and forgot about that part and then when it happened I felt so uneasy and upset by it, not gonna lie. It definitely got to me. Super disturbing. I didn‘t realize how much I forgot about until I was rereading it!! (edited) 1mo

I did a Stephen King per month last year (although I got delayed and finished up in January).
Favourite: The Green Mile. Probably followed by Different Seasons.
Least favourite: If it Bleeds. I didn't dislike it, but it was the weakest and least memorable of the bunch.

BarkingMadRead Green Mile is so so good! 3mo
Leniverse @BarkingMadRead Definitely! I'm not putting together a Best of 2023 list, but if I did Green Mile would be on it. 3mo
BarkingMadRead I originally read it when it was coming out serial style. So obnoxious having to wait to read each installment 🤣 3mo

Leniverse @BarkingMadRead I actually paced myself, to get the serial experience 😂 I waited, not a full week because I was only supposed to spend a month on it, but a few days between each section. 3mo
BarkingMadRead That‘s amazing! 3mo
Leniverse @BarkingMadRead To be fair, I have seen the movie, years ago, so I pretty much knew what was coming. Otherwise I don't think I'd have managed to wait. 3mo
TrishB Good choices 👍🏻 3mo

Although I read a bit more nonfiction than normal it really fell off the last quarter or so of the year. I have some good choices to explore on my #AuldLangSpine list so hoping to have a stronger NF year.

In love with this list, @Deblovestoread ‘s reading taste, and @monalyisha ‘s keen ability to match readers for #AuldLangSpine ! The checked ones I‘ve read and loved, and I plan to get to a good number of the rest in January, and maybe all of them throughout the year. This is so much fun already! 😁

IndoorDame Great list! Happy reading! 4mo
Deblovestoread I LOVE this post and hope you have an amazing reading experience in 2024 with these books. They all left a mark. Happy New Year! 🍾 4mo

AmyG It‘s a great list. 4mo
CBee Fantastic list! @Deblovestoread we have a few of the same favorites ♥️ 4mo
BarbaraBB It‘s a fab list indeed 😍 4mo
monalyisha @CBee Yes! One of the trickiest things about matching is when you think you‘ve got a great pairing, and the tastes are all aligned…and then you realize that the two people are TOO well-matched and have read all of the same books already. 😖🙈😅 (edited) 4mo
monalyisha @Christine I love when I agonize over whether I‘ve made the right choice for a match and then see a post like this. Always satisfying and such a relief! 4mo
CBee @monalyisha I‘m a bit in awe of how you do it! You always find the best matches 😊 (edited) 4mo
Christine @IndoorDame Right? I really hit the jackpot! Happy reading feels assured. 🙂 4mo

Hi Daria @dariazeoli ! I'm looking forward to going through your list for #auldlangspine (we'd only doubled up on The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo), so I'm excited to get started with these 5, which I already own.

I'm a bit wary of the tagged, however, as I don't read horror/King in general. Is there body/medical/hospital gore in it (or, in particular, eye surgery)? It's the one part of my body that I'm squeamish about & would rather not read.

dariazeoli It‘s so weird: I cannot watch gore but I can read it! I think I have to steer you away from The Green Mile based on the fact that it takes place on death row and with an electric chair. While there isn‘t eye surgery, there is some eye gore that probably wouldn‘t be fun for you! (Not that it can be called “fun,” but you know what I mean 😬). I‘ve already started stalking Libby to see what I can borrow in 2024 from your list! Will post soon. 4mo

dariazeoli @Chelsea.Poole I read this one early on 2023 but I was impressed with Evanna Lynch‘s writing. I‘m glad she‘s recovered from her ED as it is a difficult illness to live with, as I understand 4mo
jenniferw88 @dariazeoli thank you, I'll remove that then! Because of my medical history, it's the one part I'm squeamish about (it doesn't help that I'm needle phobic!) 4mo
jenniferw88 @dariazeoli I'll give you a warning - I found The Real Global Warming Disaster in a charity shop, so it may be a bit difficult to get hold of! 4mo

Pickpick

This was really a compilation of 3 novellas. The 1st, a story about a lawyer who absconded with clients‘ money and wanted to come home, dragged a bit. Th 2nd, a sad story about a teenager put on death row for participating in a robbery where his brother committed murder, was a bit philosophical. The 3rd, about a family law firm where the love of money was each character‘s demise in different ways, was fast paced.
