Day 6 - #Top20Series #20Days20Series
#ShardlakeSeries #CJSansom

A favorite historical mystery series.

The series' protagonist is the hunchbacked lawyer Matthew Shardlake who works on commission from Thomas Cromwell in Dissolution and Dark Fire, Archbishop Thomas Cranmer in Sovereign and Revelation, and Queen Catherine Parr in Heartstone and Lamentation. The seventh book, Tombland, was published in October 2018.

EadieB Sansom has said that he plans to write further Shardlake novels taking the lawyer into the reign of Elizabeth I. 4y
Daisey I really enjoy this series, although I have yet to read the most recent book. 4y
Andrew65 Another great series. Sovereign was my favourite. Good to hear there will be more. 4y

EadieB @Daisey Glad you enjoyed them too. The last book is a very long one but so good! 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 I'm anxiously awaiting the next one. Hope we don't have to wait too long. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes hopefully not another 6 year gap. 4y
Ruthiella I‘ve only read the first book but may get to the second soon since I was able to get my mother interested in the series too. 😀 I do have a little trouble with the portrayal of Cromwell because he‘s so different from in the Hilary Mantel books! 4y
andrew61 Great choice, id forgotten about the series and hope to read tombland soon. 4y
EadieB @andrew61 Thanks and it is a real tomb of about 866 pages! 4y
Nute I don‘t know how this happened, but book three and four are on my Kindle.🤷🏽‍♀️ (edited) 4y
EadieB @Nute Have you read book 1? (edited) 4y
Nute No. I think it was late at night and I thought that I was purchasing the first two books, but I love this historical period so I will get the entire series one day. Glad to see the love for it! 4y
EadieB @Nute Great series! Hope you enjoy it! 4y
Freespirit This is a brilliant series❤️ 4y
EadieB @Freespirit I think so too! 4y

EadieB @Mitch Yes! You should! 5y
Andrew65 Great choice! 5y
Andrew65 @Mitch The good news is I think book 1 was the weakest of the series. Really gets going from book 2. 5y
Mitch @Andrew65 oh - well that‘s good. Because I liked book 1! 5y
Twohikers81 I just bought the first one can‘t wait to start it Thankyou for posting it 5y

Pickpick

The book was long (881 pgs.) but was a very interesting read. 1549. Two years after the death of Henry VIII and the economy in collapse, inflation rages and the peasantry are rebelling. Shardlake is in the service of Henry's daughter, Lady Elizabeth. John Boleyn has been arrested for killing his wife. Shardlake is trying to prove his innocence. I look forward to the next book and recommend this series to those who love Historical Mysteries.

Andrew65 I hope to read this soon. 5y

EadieB @Tove_Reads What did you do think of it? (edited) 5y
Tove_Reads I like it, but wasn‘t my fave in the series. I seem to prefer the books set in London for some reason. The surprise twist in the end that will have an impact on future works was intriguing. Was happy to see Shardlake and Barak working together! Such sad events in the book. (edited) 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads it will probably be a year before we get the next one since we are now caught up. 5y
Tove_Reads Could be even longer ☹️ Luckily we have many other authors to read! 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads What is our next Follett book? 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Good! That‘s the one I‘ve ordered from the library. 5y

This is one of my favorite historical mystery series. I love the setting of Tudor England and the character of Matthew Shardlake. I loved the first and last parts of this book the best but he middle felt a little flat to me. I loved Ellen's story but the rest I was not that interested in. I will, however, continue the series because I have really enjoyed the rest of the books and totally look forward to the next one.

kristincatastrophic I loved that series. I read them years ago but can barely remember the stories. I may need a reread! 5y
EadieB @kristincatastrophic Definitely do merit a reread! 5y
Texreader I love this series too! A new book is coming from him next year! 5y

EadieB @Texreader Lamentations is the next one and Tombland comes out in April 2019. 5y
Texreader I hope you like Lamentations! I‘m looking forward to his next one! 5y

Great series and the more you read, the more you want!Takes place during the Tudor era. This plot revolved around a serial killer who kills according to the prophecies in Revelations from the Bible. Sansom is an excellent writer and his books are all serious page-turners. Great historical detail. The characters are very believable. Start with book one, Dissolution, read in order. Highly recommend to those who like historical mysteries.

EadieB @Herschelian Nice! How far are you in the series? 6y
Andrew65 Most probably reading this next month. @Tove_Reads 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Sounds good to me too! 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB @andrew65 Been trying to get the library to get it as an e-book. Apparently they won‘t. I will unfortunately therefore have to wait for a bit, because there is only one book in the library and it‘s taken. I should get it sometime after October 15. 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads No problem we‘ll wait until you get hold of it. @EadieB (edited) 6y
EadieB @andrew65 @Tove_Reads Definitely can wait until you get a copy. 6y
