Thoughts, Shardlakians?

LiseWorks The people don't seem to have a say about war. Especially the men they are gathering to go fight. The rich make the decisions, and the rest have to suffer. Women do not have a say in any. I'm glad to see the queen secretly ask Shardlake to do something about the ward for a friend. 1mo
AnneCecilie History has a tendency to repeat itself. When one or more groups gets more rights, there‘s bound to be a backlash. 1mo
dabbe @LiseWorks Catherine Parr has some power, but even she hides from H VIII. I have always wondered how you could knowingly marry someone you knew had had two former wives killed. What the heck? 1mo

kwmg40 The thing that struck me was how wars could be started or change course based on the whims of the leaders, while all the ordinary people suffer the consequences. 1mo
dabbe @kwmg40 It reminds me of THE ILIAD, where the gods play the humans like pieces on a chessboard. The absolute control these monarchs had, especially H VIII, is astonishing. No wonder some people want to be king! 😊 1mo
kwmg40 @dabbe A good comparison! 1mo
AnneCecilie @dabbe @LiseWorks Maybe that just shows how little power women had? She was just a pawn in a game, and saying yes gave her family more power 1mo
lil1inblue @dabbe That's an excellent comparison! I can definitely see H VIII in this light. 1mo
lil1inblue I can't help but compare H VIII's ego to that of the tangerine dumpster fire. Their thirst for power is insatiable. On a separate note, the treatment of and discussion about mentally ill individuals is not so different than some of the things I hear today. (And it was not that long ago that we were still institutionalizing people and performing lobotomies.) 1mo
dabbe @lil1inblue Agree 💯! #cheetodumpsterfire 1mo
dabbe @lil1inblue 🤩😊🤗 1mo
dabbe @AnneCecilie 🎯! And how do you say no to a king--especially this one? 1mo
