Oh this was fun! A cozy mystery featuring a sassy southern lady of a certain age who investigates the apparent suicide of her best friend, Sister Amity Gay.

3.5⭐️ I read this for the most recent #bookcougars #readalong. For the most part I enjoyed the book, but I didn‘t expect it to be as steamy as it was. As I said during the chat session, I enjoyed the historical context of the book, but the rest of the story seemed to be a bit contrived in places. I‘m not much of a #romance reader, but I was glad to dip my toes in this genre. #2024 #fiction #bookreview #historicalfiction #fiction

My Friday night read has me wondering what in the world is happening. I‘m a little lost and feel like I need to start over. 😩

S3V3N I haven‘t heard about this one. 1mo
Bookpearl @S3V3N I don‘t know how I feel about it yet. There‘s a few characters and I‘m a little lost. 😞 1mo
S3V3N @Bookpearl Ok, I read the synopsis and was pondering whether or not to try it. 1mo

The end of a run on Toni Morrison. A bit emotionally draining to read them all back to back , but a wonderful way to get to know and understand an author. It was reading time well spent. 📖

TheBookHippie The Bluest Eye and Jazz are my favorites but WHEW… back to back. 2mo
Becker @TheBookHippie Yes it was a lot of Toni Morrison. And I also read a large collection of her speeches and essay. Bluest Eye was my favourite but I thought Beloved was her masterpiece. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Becker I‘ve read those as well. Most ppl love beloved but for me The Bluest Eye just spoke to me, and there was something about Jazz. 2mo

#Mtcookbook Meatballs & BBQ sauce compliments of Tipton- Martin. 😋

I don‘t generally like commercial sauce because it sooooo sweet. The beauty of homemade is I can tone the sugar down.

I wouldn‘t be surprised if this cookbook turns out to be my favorite this year. I have several pages tabbed.

mabell Favorite of the year? That‘s high praise! 2mo

Loved visiting this African American museum while visiting Wilberforce, Ohio with my sister. They had a section for the 1960s which was cool.

#Mtcookbook Hubby chose chili & cornbread for his Bday dinner. Trying out this skillet cornbread from Jubilee, which is a remarkably beautiful & informative book.

“Asking a Southern cook whether sugar belongs in cornbread is like pouring gasoline on a smoldering fire.” 😳 Who knew?

Must be akin to the debate over beans in chili. I‘m most definitely in the bean camp - in fact I prefer all beans!

mcctrish 😳 I love cornbread but not the sweeter stuff 2mo
Tamra @mcctrish according to Toni, the sweet version is “skillet bread”. I don‘t prefer sweet either, but I am catering to my husband. 😉 2mo
mcctrish Who knew?! I usually make my cornbread in a skillet (without sugar) so I‘m probably making the entire south mad as hornets 🤣 2mo

Tamra @mcctrish 🤣that could be her designation - not sure if there‘s any consensus. 🤷🏾‍♀️ (edited) 2mo
Deblovestoread @mctrish. You are good to go…my southern grandmother probably made cornbread almost every other day of her life as a wife and mother. Always in a cast iron skillet, no sugar. 2mo
Tamra This wasn‘t sweet, but it was light & fluffy as promised. 😁 2mo
TheBookHippie Ha. I make sweet cornbread and chili with no beans 😂 2mo
