Wow. I don't think I've ever read a book in the second person before and that, as well as it being narrated by the author, made this such a powerful read.

A teenager falls in love with a wealthy older woman in 1980s Ireland. What struck me most was his hope even when everything was against him.

#heartwrenching to say the least and also a #bookwithillness @Jess7 #readingresolutions @maich #aprilbookishmadness

'Brilliant' is the word that comes to mind when I think of this book. I saw the prompt and couldn't think of a better example.
I loved Randle McMurphy as much as I detested Nurse Ratched. Stellar lines, relevant themes, memorable characters... what's not to like.
I was hooked from the start.
P.s I haven't seen the movie.

TheBookgeekFrau A most excellent read! And that cover design😍 6y

arubabookwoman Loved Sometimes a Great Notion as well, though it‘s very different. 6y
BiblioLitten @arubabookwoman just read the description. That's a chunkster! But coming from Ken Kesey, I'm sure it must be worth reading. 🙂 6y
Scarlett_ohara For some reason I didn't get into this book as much as I thought I would. I liked the story, but the story telling bored me. Maybe it was too difficult for my level of English (it's my third language but I insist on reading English books in English and not in translation). 6y
BiblioLitten @Scarlett_ohara I guess it's not for everybody. 6y
