Interesting look at why certain groups of people appear to vote against their own interests and support Trump‘s Republican Party specifically in Appalachia. Highschild interviewed many people living in the region with the highest rate of Trump supporters in the US and reported her findings. Particularly notable was the statistic that far more republican voters believe poverty is a result of one‘s own actions and failures.
We‘re reading a surprise second book! As part of grad school, I‘ve been reading The Oxford Handbook of Political Science and have actually found it to be very interesting. I‘ve even been reading a few extra chapters outside the syllabus. I‘ll definitely be reading more of these in the future! #politicalscience #oxfordhandbooks #robertgoodin #oxfordhandbookofpoliticalscience #americanpolitics #internationalpolitics #comparativepolitics #theory
It was inspiring to hear from Senator Bernie Sanders, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and local candidates and activists in-person a few hours ago in Salt Lake City, along with 20,000 others. It's been 10 years since he first ran for President of the US and opened my eyes to the possibilities of democratic socialism. We're not surrendering to billionaire bullies! #FightOligarchy
