I was going to re-read my existing copy of Thomas's nostalgic "A Child's Christmas in Wales", then today I saw this edition with illustrations by Edward Ardizzone and had to get it as he's an iconic illustrator from my own childhood, so now the nostalgia is multiplied!
Some of the illustrations are plain ink, others are painted, all are wonderful, and, of course, Thomas's beautiful, aching and funny prose poetry ? ❄️???????❄️
We‘re getting close! ❄️💙❄️
I love participating in the #JolanokaflodSwap the marvelous @MaleficentBookDragon hosts here on Litsy!
And I have read the tagged book on Christmas Eve every year since I was a kid. ❤️

I found this historical fiction of Llewelyn of Wales at the bargain bookstore for $4. What really caught my eye is how worn and well-read it was compared to the books next to it.
Um it's knights in brocaded silk roaming around and bedding maidens and killing earls and plucking the beard hairs off of strong men while they're knocked out (followed by killing them?). It's kind of a mess but don't worry, every maiden is the most beautiful woman possible: skin as white as a swan's ass, lips redder than the reddest blood, hair as blonde as broom flowers?, wearing brocaded silk, snow white booba, eyes like beautiful eyes-
I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

I discovered Mhara Starling during my brief foray into TikTok. She‘s a delightful resource on Wales and witchcraft, especially since I‘ve always been interested in the mythology and folklore of Wales. This book is more of the same—more detail in some places than in her social media. I especially liked the deeper explanations of Welsh folklore. However, it badly—desperately—needed an editor. I am extremely disappointed in the publisher, Llewellyn.
WTF, does Llewellyn just not hire copy editors?
I‘m enjoying this book so far (as I knew I would—I follow Mhara Starling on social media and I preordered this as soon as I could) but I‘m disappointed in the editing. There are a lot of sentence fragments and comma splices. A few here and there for flavor are one thing, but there are so many it‘s distracting! The spelling is UK so maybe UK grammar rules are more different than I thought?
