pickMasculine rage & nihilism in response to the absurd, cruel world we've made for ourselves was better addressed by Brett Easton Ellis &, if we go further back, Dostoyevsky ? But I found the rotten heart of the story compelling & true because of the struggle for power, autonomy, & "meaning" in the face of total alienation. Bonkers & satirical, but chillingly prophetic. Palahniuk's staccato prose style isn't really my jam, though. #90sSpringFling

batsy @AlaMich Yes! That's the chillingly prophetic part about this book. But I also wonder how much of an influence it had (especially the movie, which I now need to watch) as a cultural moment, even if its meant to be read as satire. 5y
