Entertaining, but pretty superficial when it came to character development. A young American Asian woman travels to Taipei to attend a camp after graduating from high school. She breaks out of her rigid, sheltered childhood and challenges herself to disregard the rules she was raised with. People fall in and out of love in a heartbeat and the relationship felt as ephemeral as the plot. It won't stick with me, but it was a fun quick read.

In this graphic novel, three siblings must fend for themselves in the US while their parents are back in Taiwan.

Part history, part science, part political, part innovation, Chip War walks the reader through the innovative of the “chip”, it‘s fabrication, ramifications, and its uses. How we got to the Asian dominance of chip production was interesting and where we go from here is complex and well explained.

Every March, my county library system hosts a community read. This year‘s theme is food and the tagged book is the MG selection. I loved watching CiCi adjust to life in America through a cooking contest. Seeing her grow, learning to trust and make friends, and discover how to honor her Taiwanese heritage, was heartwarming.

What a haunting and beautifully written novel this is. I didn‘t expect to love this book as much as I did, but it truly is a work of art all in itself. I do have to warn that there is a trigger: suicide and depression. The author writes this sensitive subject with care, and it is a story I will never forget. 🪶
This was my #doublebookspin for February ❤️

Sunday afternoon well spent ☺️ This is one is those novels that I‘m just drinking in and savoring. Beautifully written, but also beautifully heartbreaking.

LeeRHarry Good to hear as this one has sat on my shelf for quite some time. 2mo
TheQuietQuill It‘s very good, but very heavy. I‘m really enjoying it and so far it‘s my favorite book of the year ❤️ @LeeRHarry 2mo

Bailing on a second #Roll100 pick this morning! I know before I started that I probably wouldn't finish this book. I don't enjoy this style of surreal, dark, pain and anger-stuffed books. I figured I would give it a try, though.

This was a cute YA graphic novel about Paul who is visiting his brother in Taiwan for the summer. He spends most of his summer on the couch playing video games but decides to venture out to find a video game. He gets lost, makes some friends and has a memorable adventure. Oh to be young again! *the chopsticks were a gift from my sister when she lived in Taiwan for a year. Wish I had visited.
