#SplashIntoSummerRead
I love all of Tolkien's book, but - maybe a bit surprisingly - my #favourite is The Children of Hurin.
It's a dark story, full of despair, with no hope in sight... but there's something at its core that truly touched me.
And the strong sense of a Viking saga... just 😍

chapter_fifty2017 Heard so much about this book and picked it up in an op shop for not much am so excited to read it been on my tbr for tooooo long !! 7y
JazzFeathers @chapter_fifty2017 lt's a great, epic story. If you likeTolkien and especially the Silmarillion, l'm sure you'll love this ☺ 7y
chapter_fifty2017 Thanks jazzFeathers Do i need to read the Silmarillion first? Love L ord of the rings though !! ❤ 7y
JazzFeathers @chapter_fifty2017 No, the story stands perfectly on uts own... though knowing Middle Earth history obviously enhances the experience. But this goes for all of Tolkien's stories 😉 7y

Not that l'm going anywhere near a bench this summer... but a good mystery is always a nice read in the summer time
I've read '46 Chicago years ago. Really liked the first chapters, then it went downhill. Such a shame.
Haven't tried any Leonard so far.

#SplashIntoSummerRead #UnderATree

Well, l'm going literal: there's a guy under a tree on this cover 😆

Years ago, l went through a period l loved fantasy inspired by the medioeval sagas. I had a special penchant for Arthurian stories (well, l still do 😆), but l couldn't resist this retelling of the Nibelungenlied.
Never gotten around reading it though... yet.

There's a particularity about this cover: The author‘s name is mispelled.

MayJasper I bet the author wasn't thrilled 7y
JazzFeathers I was shocked when l realised it. I mean, it's always embarassing... but on the cover... 😱 7y

I bought this book so many years ago, while on a scgool trip in a different city, though l really don't remember the city.
There are so few stories set in prehistory times. It's fascinating 😊

#SplashIntoSummerRead

Today l was off from work early so l went wondering in a bookshop. Here's a #Chunkster l came across.

I haven't read many big books, l'm a bit intimidated by them. And l can't bring them around... l do most of my reading while communting.
How about you. How do you handle these doorstops?

batsy I've become a slower reader over the years so they have become a bit intimidating 😆 I take my books everywhere too so that's when I'm really grateful for ebooks! 7y
JazzFeathers @batsy True, uh? Though today, while browsing in the bookshop, l thought really nothing compares to real books. I do use ebooks a lot, but real books... l love them! 7y
batsy @JazzFeathers Me too, nothing compares really. But when the hands hurt... 😁 7y
JazzFeathers @batsy And bookshelf space 😆 7y
