I saw this book at an antique shop today. I would have bought it, but unfortunately it was part of an expensive lot of various books. I'm going to look for a copy on eBay now because I must have this cover!!

I first read this story in elementary. I loved the relationship Simsa had with Zass. I reread the story specifically to collect details of Zass. I‘m not sure if the printing process had limited editorial oversight, when younger I just “replaced and added” as I read, or recent reprints are not reviewed but there were many instances of omitted words and odd sentence construction. Hopefully it‘s just the edition I reread.
I have finished this final book in the Legends of the First Empire series! It was overall a very satisfying conclusion, though very sad near the end. Also there are a few loose threads not wrapped up. This is a very traditional epic fantasy, but unlike many, the books aren‘t obscenely long. 4⭐️
My physical collection is complete for the series! Thanks to the latest Kickstarter for Kevin J. Anderson I was able to get the third CD 💿 to accompany the book. They‘re songs inspired by the text.
Also for the kickstarter I supported at a level that got the digital tracks for all three CDs, the ebooks (over 60 hours combined!), and the ebooks for all three books!
(1957) In Norton's 1954 book, “The Stars Are Ours,“ scientists escape an antiscience populist government (ahem) to establish a colony on the distant planet Astra. This follow-up takes place about a hundred years later, when the colony is well established and a threat from Astra's distant past reemerges -- at the same time explorers from a very different Terra arrive. It's a good adventure, and also a light riff on themes of cultural evolution
3✨ Man, I feel bad that somehow I missed this review when I read the book a few weeks ago. It was interesting because something happens to Jon and they trust her even though she is basically hypnotized. The guys in these books act as if they have never seen a women before, and can‘t function when they are pretty and talking to them. Soldiers included losing all their sense. #SeriesLove @TheSpineView @Andrew65
Picking up from Penric‘s Mission this sees Penric still trying to get General Arisaydia and his sister, Nikys across the border to safety. It‘s not going particularly well - until they take shelter in a brothel with a louse problem. Long story short, Mira‘s (one of the imprints that makes up Desdemona) expertise as a courtesan plays a heavy role in eventually getting them all to safety. As always, I love the slice of life nature of these books.
Another stellar entry in the series. While I'm gleeful to continue on to see how various characters develop further in the next book, I'm also relieved to have certain answers and see certain arcs completed in this one.
As I've come to expect, there are bonkers happenings, heartbreakingly human moments, and some damn creepy shit. 1/?
