I enjoy reading older mysteries, but the open racism and xenophobia can sometimes be a distraction. It was interesting, then, in this one, when the main character's preconceptions caused her to miss what was really happening. I enjoyed the easy dialogue and it felt (again, except for the open racism) much more recent than the 1940s. I would like to read more in this series--if I can find them. The others might be out of print.

This is the 3rd book in the Sunshine Vicram series which should be read in order and not stand alone. it begins with a plot in book one which is gradually revealed through the following books. What doesn't change is the witty sarcasm that makes Sunshine Vicram a likeable protagonist. This is addition does not disappoint with the mystery, wit and humor. A fun cozy mystery series.

This is book 2: Sunshine Vicram series. You would think that life in a small town would be peaceful and less than exciting but not in Del Sol! From a menacing racoon to handling assaults, she has to reel in her daughter who seems to be drawn to trying to solve crime as well. The story has serious topics which are addressed with mystery and just the right amount of sarcastic humor which makes Sunshine a character you want to have a happy ending.

John Nichols died yesterday. Years ago, I devoured his fiction when I lived in the Southwest. RIP.

Some books find you at the exact right moment. I have disliked everything by Cather I had ever attempted to read. I put this on my list because it met 1925 for my #192025 challenge. I loved it from the first beautiful phrase. It captures so much beauty and tragic heartache. In the landscape and in mankind. Nuance and realism. Truly a masterpiece. This will affect me for a long time.

Librarybelle Awesome! I need to read Cather. 5mo

“ I wave to Mom where she waits on the porch, flash her a fistful of flowers, and the first smile she's seen since New York.“ I really like this quote because it shows Jayden's growth and appreciation for his new home.

This book is a really beautifully written. It would be really helpful in the classroom and out of the classroom. This book has theme of lo lines and beauty which can be seen with new students or new families that are trying to find their belongingness.
