I'd never read a novel about Alexander the Great before this. I quite enjoyed it. This is the first in a trilogy, so it mainly dealt with his early life. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Reggie So I haven‘t read Cutting for Stone but at least read his first memoir, My Own Country, which is about him living in rural Tennessee and being a new Dr. when HIV was first showing up. It‘s pretty good. Great show. 3y
ReadingEnvy @Reggie oh I didn't know he'd written more, good to know. 3y

This rather long novel is the story of twin sisters who were born conjoined at the head. It's also the story of Yugoslavia, Macedonia, and the split of the country through war, religious, and political change. The author tries to use the sisters to speak metaphorically about the region, and it wasn't too obtuse to grasp, even in translation. The very long chapters cover specific time periods for the sisters.

Cinfhen Sounds interesting 3y

Whoops to the editor

Texreader Oops. An old man gate…. I‘m trying to picture that! 😁 3y
Ruthiella I‘ve just finished a book where a woman‘s wedding dress was white and then two pages later green. In another book, a character lives in a three bedroom house and the in a couple of chapters, it‘s an apartment. 😬 3y
ReadingEnvy @Ruthiella wow that's not even an editor issue, that's just bad writing in general 3y

Reading in bed.

I‘d love to take a nice photo of the book but they REALLY DO NOT WANT YOU TO FORGET THAT IT‘S AN INTERLIBRARY LOAN!

I‘m starting the Alexander the Great trilogy.

I am an Alexander the Great admirer, and love reading about his adventures. This is a wonderful, way to read about Alexander and where he went, who he fought, and even what he may have thought. Pressfield (always) does a splendid job with historical fiction - enough fact to make it believable but the reader still comprehends that this IS fiction. I recommend wholeheartedly. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I apologize @Cinfhen , first because you sent this to me two years ago and I just now (kind of) read it , and second because alas, I couldn‘t finish it.

This is the well researched account of the first American hostage situation, missionary Ellen Stone in 1901. I‘m sure the hostage situation was fascinating, but the focus was too heavy on the political situation between Bulgaria/Macedonia/Turkey and I got bored with it.

Cinfhen It‘s cool, I couldn‘t make it through either😬In theory it should have been awesome but something was DEFINITELY OFF. Put in in the FLL 😘 3y
Reviewsbylola I made it 100 pages and realized I didn‘t realize even care what happened. At least not enough to read 120 more pages. So I looked up what happened on Wikipedia. 😂 @Cinfhen 3y
