It was inspiring to hear from Senator Bernie Sanders, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and local candidates and activists in-person a few hours ago in Salt Lake City, along with 20,000 others. It's been 10 years since he first ran for President of the US and opened my eyes to the possibilities of democratic socialism. We're not surrendering to billionaire bullies! #FightOligarchy

(1/2) Oops. Just completely forgot to post about the last two books I read lol. Been completely swept up in the new school year!
My last read of the summer. I figured it was short enough to squeeze in before school started & would be nice to knock out before I started the September seminar on CLR James that I‘m taking with the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research! 🙂

3rd NYPL checkout = ✅ A comprehensive little book about a revolutionary giant who made enormous contributions to the struggle for African independence, unity and socialism.

Tremendous overview of the history of fascism in the US.

When I heard Carla Bergman talk about joy and unschooling and Ursula K. Le Guin (and more!) on the Coffee with Comrades podcast (ep. 117), I immediately ordered their book JOYFUL MILITANCY: BUILDING THRIVING RESISTANCE IN TOXIC TIMES, co-authored with Nick Montgomery. My copy arrived in the mail today! 💕

Radical publisher Verso has made The US Antifascism Reader free to download or to email to an e-reader, and I find myself curious to try it.
“This reader reconstructs the history of US antifascism ... showing how generations of writers, organisers, and fighters spoke to each other over time.” It begins in the 1930s, including famous authors like W. E. B. Du Bois & Sinclair Lewis.
