When your #brilliantfriend has a brilliant river with a brilliant platypus by which to read books 😀. We have 36 years of friendship and have known each other since childhood, as have Lila and Elena, but there is also a third friend to our circle. So far, thankfully, our story is quite different ... #favouritefriendships #favoritefriendships #booktober #ferrantefever #ferranteforever

Most anticipated reads: 2 memoirs, a Ferrante, and a fantasy my friends insist non-fantasy readers like:Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (has anyone read it?). Most anticipated eats: Belgian chocolate 😀😍#Booktober #mostantcipatedreads #Ferrantefever #Ferranteforever #Chocoholic

LeahBergen I was going to ask what was in that bag! And I'm not a fantasy reader but I watched the mini-series for Jonathan Strange and liked it (so, hmmm... maybe I can be persuaded? 🤔) 8y
Yossarian Yes. Jonathan Strange is great for fantasy lovers or gothic literature lovers. It's just well written and doesn't get bogged down in tropes. 8y
GuiltyFeat I'm not a fantasy reader but Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell was a treat regardless. The Ferrante books got better with every volume. 8y
EnidBiteEm @LeahBergen I did not know there was a mini-series ... thanks for letting me know. I will let you know what I think of it when I'm done (or when I've bailed..😳). 8y
EnidBiteEm @Yossarian @GuiltyFeat It's good to have more affirmations (now to read it). @GuiltyFeat I'm trying to ration myself to one Ferrante per holiday, to give me more time to reflect on just how she does writes so skilfully. Not sure I'll last ... 8y

Days of Abandonment | Elena Ferrante
post image
Pickpick

This was my first Ferrante ❤️. Olga is unflinchingly raw and honest in examining her thoughts and emotions as she ricochets through turmoil when her husband leaves her; her sense of abandonment of her sanity and her identity, as she is left to care for her two young children, is brutal. I wouldn't want to endlessly dissect my characters in interviews if I was Ferrante, everything is already said. #translatedbooks - Thanks Ann Goldstein.

Delphine That book was also my first Ferrante. And I just loved it. Since I read it, I continue to think about Olga and her feelings... And now I have #mybrilliantefriend in my TBR! 8y
EnidBiteEm @Delphine I'm reading Book 2 of the Neapolitan Novels. I find myself thinking of Elena and Lila and how they feel quite frequently! 8y
