Saw this #magic movie today and am very tempted by this lovely but expensive book. Due to violent scenes (including one involving an animal), plus, um, unusual romantic elements (which I suppose you could say #connecttonature), it might be for when you #feeladventurous. ❤️ the #devotion many of the characters showed each other and the homage to old movie musicals. #readingresolutions #startinganewjanuary #nuyear #scenesfromabook #multitasking

writerlibrarian Del Toro is fascinating in his choices. 6y
rubyslippersreads @writerlibrarian Plus he also loves one of my favorite movies, The Uninvited 6y
TommieMarie74 Good review, and helpful. I have a really hard time with violence involving animals and avoid reading books with events like that. I really appreciate the warning. ❤️ 6y

Cinfhen That's a trigger for @TrishB animal cruelty 6y
Larkken The movie was beautiful! And never have I forgiven a director quicker for the animal thing, tbh 6y
Rachellynnwright Golden Globes winner tonight!!! I love how Guillermo thanked his monsters first 😍 6y
TrishB @TommieMarie74 @Cinfhen thanks for warning! I was just looking at this book as I saw the trailer for the film! 6y
mariaku21 I loved this movie! it's such an ode to his love of monsters and sweeping romances! 6y
rubyslippersreads @TommieMarie74 @Cinfhen @TrishB I'm extremely sensitive to animal cruelty too, but I agree with @Larkken about being able to forgive it fairly quickly, maybe because of the context. 6y
TommieMarie74 @Larkken @rubyslippersreads That‘s good to know. I‘ll have to keep it in mind. Senseless animal cruelty is hard for me and I spend a lot of time when reading anxious and worrying nonstop about whether or not something will happen to an animal in a book. If you have read Under the Dome by Stephen King. There is an awful moment involving a dog. I read that sentence and shut the book. I‘ve never finished it. And I‘m still bothered by that scene. 6y
rubyslippersreads @TommieMarie74 I agree completely, but (trying to avoid spoilers), I would say this isn't senseless. Very unpleasant, but it makes sense for the character. Maybe wait for the DVD and fast-forward??? 6y
TommieMarie74 @rubyslippersreads That‘s a very good idea! 6y
rubyslippersreads @TommieMarie74 I would also recommend fast-forwarding through some of the more violent scenes. They were a bit much for me, even though I really liked it overall. 6y
Larkken @TommieMarie74 @rubyslippersreads I don't know how familiar you are with the director...this movie was MUCH less violent than pan's labyrinth, but had an edge reminiscent of his usual horror/monster movies. I thought it helped too with the undertones of race and humanity that the movie was playing with. Oh, and tangentially, I have not forgiven Will Smith for animals in I am legend or the robot movie... In this movie, it made a certain sense 6y
