panStay away. The advice is trite. But more importantly, the way the female is represented is insulting. Two people marry and leave corporate to start a speaking company together. After the woman has 3 kids in 2 years, they decide she should stay home. Ok so far. But then “Terri stayed home to manage the company while the HEAVY LIFTING FOR THE BUSINESS FELL ON JUDS SHOULDERS”?!? 3 kids under 3 and managing a biz but he‘s got the tough job? From 2008!
Okay, so lemme explain my third pick. I think I got it as a gag gift about 15 years ago. But…if ever there was a time for it, it might be now. My personal brand at work has taken a hit recently, and if anyone knows anything about bouncing back from a screw up, it‘s Martha (I think this was published the same year she got out of prison). At the very least, it‘s an excuse to treat myself to a bottle of 19 Crimes wine.

so-soIt's exactly what it sounds like, a collection of founders' stories in interview format. Livingston does a solid job prodding her interviewees and asks good questions. What I didn't like so much, which wasn't her fault, was that many interviews tended to get long-winded and rambly, filled with technical jargon that I had no chance of understanding. Some interviews were much better, and I learned a lot.
pickI cannot say enough good things about this book! The setup was very contrived, but I appreciate that Gerber managed to present such excellent information in a way that was engaging, rather than dry and boring. Highly recommend this to anyone thinking about starting their own business.
