The Solitary Summer | Elizabeth Von Arnim, Elizabeth
post image

I love when books have illustrations, this one is particularly lovely. The book is broken down into months (written as journal entries). I especially loved this one with a woman reading idyllically in a hammock. One of my favourite places to read in the summer too! #thesolitarysummer #bookillustrations #elizabethvonarnim

I was so proud of myself , I donated 2 books to the charity book sale .Went to my local used bookstore where I had credit, they use the old half credit half cash model.Found these beauties, yay Virago! No net gain or loss in the overwhelming Book stash.😄☹️🤷‍♀️

saresmoore Sounds perfectly balanced to me! 6y
merelybookish No resisting a Virago! 👍 6y

Bookwomble I really like Crap Artist, one of PKDs overlooked mainstream novels. Nice catch 🎣 6y
Leftcoastzen @Bookwomble the description of the Crap Artist drew me in for sure. 6y

Pickpick

What starts as a comedy of manners accelerates at the midpoint into a gripping psychological-noir.

Written in 1921 Elizabeth Von Arnim‘s marital-chiller Vera predates Daphne Du Maurier‘s Rebecca by 16 years and makes for a fascinating comparison.

I love Elizabeth, and so I was delighted to find a 1st ed. of a book of hers I hadn't read at a thrift shop.I didn't realize at the time just how lucky I was to find it, as it's been out of print for years and isn't available online, which is a shame as I think it's one of her very best. When Jen's widowed father suddenly remarries, she takes the opportunity to escape to a country cottage, where she meets a shy clergyman and his domineering sister.

lydiabbc Also, it has shades of an absolute top favorite of mine, #TheBlueCastle by #L.M.Montgomery. #ElizabethvonArnim #vintage 7y

#VintageEdition post, #ElizabethVonArnim edition. These books from my collection are editions from 1931, 1940, 1907, 1936, 1929, and 1926 respectively. 💕

SharonGoforth Gorgeous!! 8y
GlitteryOtters @SharonGoforth thanks! I love her books so much I had to own them...and for some reason old editions were often cheaper than newer editions of the same quality level, so of COURSE I went for the old editions where possible...! 8y
SharonGoforth @GlitteryOtters I have a few Van Arnims that are vintage, including The Jasmine Farm which has the same cover as yours 😊. I just love vintage books. They have a wonderful patina about them. 8y
