#MayMontage Day 21: This picturebook portrays #Incarceration quite movingly. The shame, the guilt, the anger are all treated here with a light-feather touch that never felt contrived or heavy-handed. My full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-pej

More people than we know suffer the stigma of having a loved one incarcerated. I had a student who was furious and let you know anytime someone said, "Ask your mom."
She'd scream, "My mom's in jail!"
You'd hear the innocent request and cringe knowing that the anger would be loud and unexpected. I think she was actually the most well-adjusted for it.

So I let my kid pick my next book. Looks like I'll finally get around to reading this two years after I bought it from the 2015 #DBF. I've heard great things about it and the author was a sweetheart when I met her at the festival. here's my bingo card for #TBRBingo. Also gonna make this my #awesomeautumnbooks post about #siblings because there are 13 Turner children in this family! 😱😱😱

Is it really #diversity if I read lots of books by black people? Damn skippy, it is.
Sidenote: I met Dr. Tweedy at the #DBF in 2015 and he signed the copy of his book included in this pic.
