MrsV She would have been utterly destroyed by the Towers being attacked. 5y
Andrew65 Certainly think she would have been totally devastated and that some of her New York will have been destroyed! Always strange feeling when you encounter the twin towers in books as those images just stay with you. Who can ever forget the planes crashing into them or them collapsing! 😢😭 🖤 (edited) 5y
EadieB I think she would be just as devastated as we all were but maybe just a little bit more because New York is her city. 5y

IndoorDame I agree that she would have been devastated. I think that‘s even hinted at directly in the book when she imagines the skyline without the towers and how she thinks she‘d feel the lack of them. I actually had to check when I read that to see if this was written post 9/11 (it was) or if it was just eerily prescient. 5y
Mitch @IndoorDame yeah I agree...there as definitely a sadness about the skyline around the towers..... 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I agree!! She would be devastated as she was when she was talking about Radio Row being demolished! “Good-bye, Radio Row.” 5y
IndoorDame @Mitch there is for me as well. I grew up in ny, and moved away just months before 9/11. I‘ve never been back for more than a few months since, but I still feel that lack each time I‘m back, even after so long 5y
TheBookHippie Devastated especially with St Vincent's hospital demolished too... 5y
BarbaraJean @IndoorDame I did the same thing with double-checking the copyright date, even though I knew this came out last year! I felt like the author was directly foreshadowing 9/11 when Lillian ponders what the skyline would look like/how she‘d feel if the towers were gone. 5y
BarbaraJean And although I‘m sure Lillian would be devastated by 9/11, also like to think she would have found hope in the way the city came together in the aftermath, and the way the fallen have been remembered. 5y
IndoorDame @BarbaraJean so true, I think that‘s the ny that she loves so much and can‘t bring herself to leave or to admit it‘s changing 5y
CoffeeNBooks @IndoorDame I checked the copyright date, also! 5y
CoffeeNBooks I completely agree with everyone else, that Lillian would have been devastated, and I think she would have taken it so personally, as she notes so many of the changes that have taken place over the years she's lived in NYC. 5y
