Up next is my pick for #NonFiction2019 #SomethingYouWerentLookingFor #MountTBR2019 #Bk9 & #Pop19 #PopSugarReadingChallenge #BookYouThinkShouldBeAMovie The story of Sandra Pankhurst, a trans woman in Australia, who overcame abuse as a child & then coming to terms with her sexuality as an adult, becomes a trauma cleaner who deals with other people‘s pain. Comes highly recommended by littens I trust. And I‘m stoked it‘s another #AussieLit book!

Cathythoughts The cover of this book really freaks me out. And I‘m ok with scarey books usually.... 5y
JacqMac This one is so good! Heartbreaking, but well told. 5y
JennyM It is soooo good. Sandra is an amazing lady. Enjoy 5y

David Malouf‘s first novel, written from a semi-autobiographical perspective of his growing up in postwar Brisbane, paints a portrait of the city as an ugly, backward country backwater. The novel‘s fine, I just found the parts outside of Brisbane the most interesting #Brisbane #DavidMalouf #aussielit #toughguybookclub #storybridge

Pickpick

Really enjoyed this mystery novel set in small-town Australia. When the body of a beloved high school teacher is found in the local lake, detective Gemma Woodstock must balance her desire to catch the killer with her urge to keep her own secrets hidden — including her haunting ties to the murdered woman. Bailey writes complex, often unlikeable characters and constructs a slow-burning but suspenseful plot.

This quote really got me thinking about colonialism and a nation as a collectively accepted concept.
What about those who don‘t accept the idea superimposed on a place? #aussielit

Man Booker prize winning author Richard Flanagan's first novel, Death of a River Guide tells the story of the lineage and mixed heritage of a white water rafting tour guide in Tasmania. Beautiful and lyrical, the novel weaves its way through two centuries of the sad and brutal history of Tasmania. Epic read.

thewanderingbookmark I thought this was beautiful story, but my favourite Flanagan is Gould‘s Book of Fish 6y
AndjoSant @thewanderingbookmark this was my first Flanagan ... have you read Narrow Road to the Deep North? I hear that‘s his best 6y
thewanderingbookmark It is really good and definitely worth a read, but GBOF is still my fav. 6y

A colleague got me a bit of classic Australiana. I don't think I've read a play since Uni. #Aussielit #play

A highly engaging read. Shows how far we have to go as a country in dealing with both casual & institutionalised racism. Growing up as part of a minority in Western Sydney, I could definitely relate but her experience of racism was on a whole other level. Can't wait to hear her talk at #sydneywritersfestival #australia #aussielit #sydney #westernsydney #racism #booksandsocks

I loved this part. Reminded me of the golliwog biscuits my best friend would bring to school (which then became scallywags, which now might be teddy bears?) #racism #thehaterace #sydney #westernsydney #aussielit #australia

Sue Makes me think about that cheese brand that has the terribly offensive name. 7y
AndjoSant Oh that's also mentioned in the book 🧀 7y
