Autumn | Ali Smith

I just can‘t do this one; my brain is frazzled this past couple of weeks and this isn‘t helping. I feel like there‘s a story in here I want to read - I loved the chapters about the Post Office and GP receptionist - but I can‘t do the writing style right now so I‘m moving on.

emtobiasz I love Ali Smith but her writing style definitely demands full attention. My brain definitely couldn‘t handle that all the time! 11mo
JillR @emtobiasz 🤯 = this is me 11mo

JillR I love that hashtag @cinfhen - hate bailing but am trying to embrace it haha! 11mo
Cinfhen Sometimes letting go is the best thing to do.....😘 11mo
Cathythoughts I read this for Bookclub... but I was not a fan. I would have bailed , only for the Bookclub... 11mo
JillR @cathythoughts I enjoyed the Elisabeth based chapters but just couldn‘t do the David/David-Elisabeth ones. It‘s short at least, so I nearly pressed on, but then, life‘s short too! 🤷‍♀️ 11mo
Cathythoughts I‘m back in Thomas Cromwell land again ( 😳) ... reading Dissolution by Sansom. It‘s really really good murder mystery. (edited) 11mo
JillR @cathythoughts I‘ve got a feeling I might have tried that one some time ago but didn‘t finish...I have no recollection why. Maybe I need to do a Wolf Hall and try again! 11mo

#IWonder what it is that makes me bail or hate a book, while others rave about it and love it. I hate-read the tagged book and bailed on the other three, but I know they all have big fans on Litsy. I know everyone is different, and I‘m slowly becoming more okay with not loving or even liking a popular book, if it just isn‘t for me 🤷‍♀️

laurenbescoby I bailed on uprooted too. I just couldn't get into it! 13mo
Meredith3 You do you, girl! ⚡️✨💫 13mo
Lauredhel I hear you! With most books that aren't for me, I'm just all "shrug, this isn't for me" ... But I hate Love in the Time of Cholera with the fire of a thousand suns. ???????????☀☀☀ 13mo

erzascarletbookgasm Yes, different strokes for different folks 😊. 13mo
JSW I am a little book snobby, I must admit, in what I choose to read in the first place - but i never shame anyone (including myself) for DNF. Life is too short and there are so many other books! 13mo
emilyhaldi It‘s always a little disappointing when a much-hyped book is a drag. I‘m scared of this one 13mo
Aimeesue For years I kept trying to read fantasy and hated most of it (I don't even like LOTR) but kept trying because I did like *some* of it. Then I realized I only like fantasy if it's based on fairy tales or folklore, or if it's satire, like Discworld. I yam what I yam. 😋 13mo
Reviewsbylola Count me as a lover of The Leftovers!! 13mo
Kalalalatja @miralunasbooknook it just made me mad!!!! 😡😡 @Meredith3 @Lauredhel @erzascarletbookgasm @JSW I just can‘t believe how long it took me to begin bailing! I still struggle through too many books, and there are #toomanybookstoolittletime to do that! 13mo
Kalalalatja @emilyhaldi it really is! I would like to positive about it, but from the 100 pages I‘ve read, I can only say it wasn‘t for me at all! 13mo
Kalalalatja @Aimeesue it is wonderful when you finally GET what it is you like! 👌 @Reviewsbylola I think I might have tried it at the wrong time, but I‘m really not inclined to try it again 😄😄 13mo
Mdargusch I wonder that too. Must have to be the right book at the right time? 🤷🏼‍♀️ 13mo
Cinfhen #AllHailTheBail 🙌🏻🧡 13mo
blondie I'm the same way. I swear I'm sometimes the only one who likes a book then at other times I hate a book that everyone else adores. It's crazy how different we all are when it comes to reading the same story. 13mo

The Luminaries | Eleanor Catton

#FierceFeb #IThinkImParanoid There is a fair bit of Paranoia going on in this book, The Luminaries, everyone quite suspicious 😒.
I also must confess , that while I do love it, I‘m getting confused as “ the thick plottens”
I‘m keeping notes ..... did anyone else find this ??? I think I‘m paranoid, really !

LeahBergen It‘s a bit confusing at the beginning but just push on through. It gets easier pretty quickly and then reads really fast. 👍🏻 2y
batsy ?❤️ I haven't read it, you all have me intrigued. Love the "thick plottens" vibe of this photo... 2y
Cathythoughts Thankyou @LeahBergen I needed to hear that. I was seriously thinking of hitting the pause button on this one ! But I don‘t want to miss out. I‘ll keep going .... 🙏🏻 (edited) 2y

Centique Exactly what @LeahBergen said! Don‘t worry too much about remembering all the detail at the beginning. I think it‘s almost supposed to be murky and then slowly clears up! 2y
Cathythoughts It‘s very good @batsy , I‘ll plow on .... 2y
Cathythoughts @Centique thanks, I‘ll keep on keeping on so. 👍🏻 2y
Cinfhen I'm intimidated by this book....I've started it twice & bailed twice 🙊 2y
Cathythoughts @Cinfhen thankyou for sharing this , I‘m finding it tough enough, at the moment I‘m completely lost 🙄. I‘ll see how it goes, I‘m not even a tenth in & I feel like a pallet cleanser 😬 2y
Cinfhen Hahaha😂feel your pain, Cathy!! 2y
GatheringBooks huge tome of a book. i‘ve had it for awhile now - but i know it will require commitment once i start cracking it open. i hope you enjoy it! 2y
Cathythoughts @GatheringBooks thankyou! I just looked up “ tome “ , I see that word on Litsy a lot ! Now I know what it means 🙏🏻. I was thinking more like Tomb . So Thankyou for ( unbeknownst to you ) making me finally look it up. To be fair, it‘s very good. I just need to concentrate more 🤓. 👍🏻 2y
DeborahSmall Gorgeous view! 😘 did John enjoy Belfast? Please let me know if he‘s ever back in the Duncairn, we‘d both love to see him in that venue ❤️ 2y
Cathythoughts @DeborahSmall thankyou! The gig went really well , I‘m sure he will be back there again, I just don‘t know when. I hope to go along myself next time. And ofcorse , I‘ll let you know 😉❤️ 2y
DeborahSmall That would be a great place to meet 😘 2y
Cathythoughts @DeborahSmall it would indeed 👍🏻😘 2y
CarolynM @Cinfhen I didn't make it past page 100, I didn't like the cod Victorian writing and I wasn't interested enough to persevere 2y
Cinfhen Glad I‘m in good company @CarolynM 😁 2y
Cathythoughts @Cinfhen @CarolynM Ladies, I‘m bailing on Luminaries for now. It‘s not for me. It started off promising enough , but, it‘s not holding me. If you have to bail , then you have to bail 🤷‍♀️ 2y
Cinfhen #AllHailTheBail good for you,Cathy! Life is too short!! 2y
CarolynM I'm all for bailing when a book's not doing it for you. My rule is if I reach page 100 and I'm wondering why I'm reading it - bail.😀 2y
Cathythoughts @Cinfhen love that hashtag ❤️. @CarolynM , I agree ! I wasn‘t looking forward to it , that‘s a sign somethings wrong. I like your rule 👍🏻 2y

Bailing at page 27. It took a lot of endurance to make it to page 27. I know I‘m fooling myself to try to make it another 380. Am I a bad person? 😬

Tamra No, smart move! So much to read, so little time. 🤓 2y
Cinfhen #AllHailTheBail reading should be enjoyable 💞💞💞 2y
emilyhaldi Lol, I think I bailed on page 27 of The Animators... sometimes it needs to happen! 2y

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @tamra @cinfhen @emilyhaldi Thanks! I figured this book is just keeping me from finding one I‘ll actually enjoy! 2y
mjdowens Heck no! Toss that sucker aside and read something you enjoy 😉 2y
ValerieAndBooks Never feel bad about bailing!! 2y

I wish I'd said #GoodRiddance on what is turning out to be an extremely boring novel, but at this point I'm almost finished, so it would feel like a waste to not power through until the end. #90sInJuly

Cinfhen Hate when that happens! That's why I follow the @shawnmooney method, if I ain't feeling it....BAIL #AllHailtheBail 2y

Over the last few days, I've been trying to get into this , and you can see by the bookmark that I haven't gotten very far (page 16, to be exact). But I just keep being confused even when reading the pages over and over. Maybe it's that spy novels aren't a genre I normally read. I picked it up for year 1974 for my #birthdaychallenge -- should I bail?

Hooked_on_books I would say bail for now and try it again later. If you get the same result, time to look for another 1974 book! 2y
Cinfhen I'm saying #AllHailtheBail 😉 2y
RestlessFickleBookHoarder I love that bookmark! I say bail. Life is too short. 2y

kspenmoll Read this & others when they were published- wonder what it would be like for me now? I remember enjoying his books but my dad read them too & we talked about them; I am guessing that helped. 2y
Sue Bail! And great bookmark (edited) 2y
mhillis I had the same problem with this book! Watch the movie instead? 2y
ValerieAndBooks @Hooked_on_books @Cinfhen @Sace @Sue I think I'll go ahead and bail. I won't rule out returning to it in the near future. @mhillis good idea...maybe one of those rare instances where the movie should be seen first? @kspenmoll Yes I am sure it made a big difference getting to talk them with your dad 😊! BTW you all the bookmark is one that I colored from a set @KarenUK gave me as Secret Santa, I ❤ it too! 2y
LauraJ I'm going to have to let you stay a year ahead of me so I can continue to avoid the clunkers! 2y
ValerieAndBooks @LauraJ haha! It seems to have been (still is?) pretty popular so I think it was just not my type. Still stumped for this year...may resort to this non-fiction one I've had in my TBR forever! 2y
