Miss Nell Howe and Freda Chapters

Question 4 of 4

CarolynM I really don't know if I would tell. I don't think I would have run away from the restaurant. I'd like to think I'd have given him a cheery greeting. But then, knowing how bad I am at reading situations I would probably put my foot in it with both of them without realising I was doing it😁 5y
Andrew65 @CarolynM This is a really difficult one. Tell or not tell? Whatever you do you end up hurting that person. Possibly feel I‘d have to say something otherwise like lying to your friends! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 @CarolynM I think it‘s best to tell because nothing worse than feeling like everyone knew except you. 5y

Miss Nell Howe and Freda Chapters

Question 3 of 4

CarolynM Pretty much the same way most friends are treated when someone falls in love. If the relationship had been a good, lasting one she would have moved into a more balanced way of dividing her time the way most of us do. But she never got a chance to get past that first infatuation and unfortunately he wasn't worth it. 5y
Andrew65 She fell big and hard, and forgot her friends and then used them! Not good! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 @CarolynM So many do forget their friends in a time like that and you never know when the relationship will go sour and you‘ll need your friends to help you through it. Need to balance your time like Carolyn said. 5y

Question 2 of 4

CarolynM I guess it depends what you see. Overall I think I'd rather not know what the future holds. 5y
TheBookHippie I think a curse. Unless you could fix it. If I knew my life wouldn't be where it is now. I'd never dreamed I'd be strong enough 😳. I am. ❤️ 5y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie From what I have seen this year you are a remarkably strong person and should feel very proud of yourself! 👍😍 5y

Andrew65 @CarolynM @TheBookHippie Two ways of looking at this, I think it would be both a blessing and a curse. In general most probably better not to know. 5y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 Awe thanks- Happy Christmas !! I think I use my horrific experiences to bless others instead of condemning myself or the world. Much better use. I'm so thankful for this winter holiday to refuel !!! This readalong helped me get through to the end!!!! Thank you!!! 5y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Yes, I was in great need of this recharge too. Group reads keep me going and help ensure I find time for reading which destresses me! No person should have to go through such experiences but says so much about you that you can use it to help others. Happy Holidays to you too. (edited) 5y
EadieB I don‘t think I would want to know the future. Best to take one day at a time. @Andrew65 @TheBookHippie @CarolynM 5y
EadieB @TheBookHippie Nice of you to turn your bad experiences into being helpful to others. Wishing you the best experiences in 2019 and hope you move forward in positive ways! Happy Christmas to you and yours! Happy reading! 5y

Question 1 of 4

CarolynM I was surprised she gave her any gift at all. Everything else about her made me think she wouldn't have thought she needed to acknowledge her secretary's marriage. 5y
TheBookHippie @CarolynM Right??? This surprised me too. Odd. 5y
Andrew65 How bizarre was this. She gets a present from her and it turns out to be a gift from a parent she hadn‘t opened. How mean spirited! And as @TheBookHippie said odd. She may have not had the best upbringing but not allowing herself to live. @CarolynM 5y
EadieB That was very mean-spirited and she was very odd! @Andrew65 @TheBookHippie @CarolynM (edited) 5y

Pickpick

Between a pick and so-so for me. I felt like we were tripping along the surface of the story and the characters, never getting a chance to be truly invested. Still, there was enough happening to make it an entertaining read. Thanks for the buddy read @Andrew65
#MaeveBinchyBuddyRead #AWeekInWinter

Kaye Binchy books are all good, but different levels of good. I usually really like the biggest ones the most. I haven‘t read this one yet. Most of the skinniest ones are good enough to keep reading, but too much like short stories to me. Either too many characters or they‘re not developed enough (edited) 5y
CarolynM @kaye I read the early ones many years ago and my memory is that they were much more detailed than this one. I particularly liked 5y
Kaye Yes, Echoes was one of my favorites. I also liked The Glass Lake. 5y

JamieArc I liked this one, and can see what you mean. It was almost like reading a book of short stories. 5y
erzascarletbookgasm I sent you a card but looks like you‘ve not received it, so here‘s wishing you a very Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays, Carolyn! 🎄🎅🤗 5y
CarolynM @erzascarletbookgasm That's lovely of you Jessie, thank you. The post is so unreliable these days, who knows when anything will turn up? Merry Christmas to you and yours. Hope you have a very happy festive season 🎄🎉😘 5y
Andrew65 @kaye I would agree totally, I prefer the bigger stories than the short story ones. Not a great fan of short stories and I like more depth. Echoes is the January Choice. @CarolynM (edited) 5y
BarbaraBB Merry Christmas Carolyn ❤️💃🎄🥂 5y
CarolynM Thank you @BarbaraBB Looking forward to more book chat with you in the New Year😘 5y

Anders and The Walls Chapters

Question 4 of 4

EadieB The Walls just seemed like complainers to me. Then when they found out the first prize was a rip-off then they calmed down. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Didn‘t like them and the way they moaned about only getting the second prize. How awful that they settl d down once they knew the winner wasn‘t enjoying it. My least favourite chapter. (edited) 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 I agree they were not very nice. How about the way she called them up like she was from the company who posted the competition? Not right at all to do that! 5y
See All 6 Comments
CarolynM I didn't like them much, either. They were very self absorbed. I thought it was a bit unbelievable that they were so convinced they were going to win first prize. Even if they won a lot of competitions there must have been plenty they didn't win too. 5y
TheBookHippie @CarolynM self absorbed is it!!!! Yuk. 5y
Tove_Reads Strange couple. I understand their kids. And, not telling their kids they won the trip says it all. 5y

Anders and The Walls Chapters

Question 3 of 4

EadieB I think he finally figured out how he can do both inherit the business and keep Erika too. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB This seems a strange choice to me, surely he should have moved to Gothenburg and Erica. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 At the end I think he said he was going to call Erika. 5y
See All 12 Comments
Andrew65 @EadieB He did, would have loved to hear that phone call. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Anders did not strike me as being too bright. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB 😂😂😂 Most probably his family limited his development and maturity. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 No wonder why Erika left him. He didn‘t have the capacity to figure things out. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB I would imagine he frustrated her! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 For sure! 5y
CarolynM He clearly had some business skills, so running a business in a field that he is passionate about seems like a good plan to me. I think the Erika ship has sailed. (edited) 5y
TheBookHippie @EadieB I don't think ignorance is bliss applies to him . Oye. He seems vapid. 5y
Tove_Reads He can handle disciplined business life, so I think it‘s a good idea. At the same time he can jam as much as he wants to. 5y

Anders and The Walls Chapters

Question 2 of 4

EadieB His mother told him that he will inherit his father‘s business and he needs to stay in contact with his father but I think he needs to figure out a way to spend more time with Erika too. I think he has a choice and can inherit the business and keep Erika too! (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB She was right to some extent he did choose to go back and go into the company but he had been brainwashed in this over a number of years. That wasn‘t the right place for him. Whether he is making the right choice or not following his time in Ireland only time will tell. Strange he didn‘t end up going to Gothenburg 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 I feel like he will inherit the business no matter what if there aren‘t any other heirs and I don‘t feel like he has to spend his whole like with his father. 5y
See All 8 Comments
Andrew65 @EadieB Agreed, not have to sacrifice his life to the company. 5y
CarolynM Within the limits of what is available to us, we all have choice about the life we live. I understand that there were strong parental expectations, but I completely agree with Erika that it was Anders's choice to go along with those expectations or to make his own way in the world. 5y
CarolynM I liked that John Paul and his father simply misunderstood each others' desires. I think that happens quite often between parents and children, but I don't think that was Anders's situation. I think his father was going to be very unhappy with him. But Klara was much better suited to be running the business. 5y
TheBookHippie There's always a choice . As long as you have courage. It's hard for kids and parents when the relationship is strained and full of expectations. 5y
Tove_Reads Well, his mother choice another life, and seemed happy. His father didn‘t seem to find it too weird. Expectations are always there, but in this case Zander‘s would never be happy. An irish bar sounds more like him! 5y

Anders and The Walls Chapters

Question 1 of 4

EadieB To me Anders father seemed very negative to Anders and he seemed a bit old fashioned too! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Far too formal and old fashioned for both Anders and his mother. I wonder if he ever let himself go. He just seems a blank canvas to Anders unless talking about the business. Anders definitely had to break out, I wonder what will happen between him and Erica. 5y
CarolynM He wasn't someone I would want to know, but I think he was pretty satisfied with his life being dominated by his work. The only thing he seemed unhappy about was Anders not being there every evening to tell him what had happened at the firm every day. 5y
See All 6 Comments
TheBookHippie So formal and stiff. Blech. 5y
Tove_Reads I‘m sure it‘s his upbringing. Very typical Nordic male his age. 5y
JacqMac I think he was happy with his life. As happy as someone like that could be anyway. I‘m glad he‘s not my dad though. Lol 5y

John, and Henry and Nicola Chapters

Question 4 of 4

Tove_Reads I think they found the answer they were looking for here. They kept on thinking about how unhappy they were. First world problems. But, helping him out made all the difference. 5y
JacqMac I think it‘s the perfect move for them. And by helping Shay the little town already loved and trusts them. That‘s hard to earn in a small town. 5y
EadieB Yes I think they were seriously thinking about the move but the Shay incident sealed it. 5y
See All 8 Comments
Andrew65 @EadieB I agree, I felt they were going to do it anyway, this just cemented it. A book about them taking up that role would have been good. 5y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 all these books that need written!!!! But I agree with @Tove_Reads they found their peace and what they were looking for. Even if they didn't know they were looking? 5y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie These authors just leave us hanging! 🤣 5y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 seriously !!!!! Just rude. 5y
CarolynM I suspect that they are going to feel inadequate wherever they are. It is important to care about the people around us, but we also have to be conscious that we don't always get things right and we can't always prevent bad things from happening. I think that's what they struggle with. 5y
