5 posts | 3 read
A killer in the 87th Precinct is leaving behind severed hands as calling cards, putting Detectives Carella and Hawes back on the streets to end this murderous, gruesome streak."Imagine your favorite Law & Order cast solving fresh mysteries into infinity, with no re-runs, and you have some sense of McBain's grand, ongoing accomplishment." -- Entertainment Weekly"McBain has the ability to make every character believable -- which few writers these days can do." -- Associated Press

The hand in the title is literal. A large hand is discovered in a bag and the detectives of the 87th Precinct must discover the identity of both victim and killer. It‘s a good procedural with a heartbreaking ending. Dick Hill is the best narrator for the action scenes, although I don‘t think the intent was to make me laugh. His over-the-top narration is hysterical.

Despite the way the cover looks, the name of the book is NOT Ed McBain #petpeeve Anyway, I have been reading through the 87th Precinct books and thoroughly enjoying them. Quick reads with a large dose of humor. A bit "of the time" in the racism/sexism department, although McBain plays it rather tongue-in-cheek than seriously. All in all, good fun with likable characters.

When the Beatles said #IWantToHoldYourHand, they meant that the hand should still be attached to the person's body...

My "boy(s)" in the title for #feistyfeb. I have either not read this or it's been so long since I did that rereading would be like reading it for the first time.
