I have a question for Audiobook listeners. I‘m doing a read along with this book.
There are a massive amount of changes in the audio book version, for instance the boys age in the book is 13, the audiobook said 15. All parts that say “Ash” are now “he” foot/feet measurements are meters, and now the biggest one, an entire paragraph completely different from the book. Why is it doing this? Is this normal? I‘m still new to audio books.

Sweetkokoro @Letora neither have I, and I just finished the first chapter and pages 4-5 were completely different from what is written, I am so confused. 4y

DGRachel I‘ve never had big structural changes like that, that I‘m aware of. The only thing I can think of is that there are different editions of the text (like the changes between the UK edition of Harry Potter and the US edition) or that the audiobook is abridged. 4y
Sweetkokoro @DGRachel The audiobook is unabridged, that was the first thing I checked. I‘m starting to wonder if the audiobook is based on the UK edition, while I clearly have the physical US edition (as I‘m in the US haha). I assumed my audiobook would be US edition since it‘s from my library. But I didn‘t think whole pages worth would be that different (I have never really looked at the differences between US and UK editions) 4y
DGRachel I don‘t think there‘s always a difference beyond the covers of US/UK editions, but yeah - my guess if there are differences in your book and you‘ve managed to get two different editions with the different formats. That has to be frustrating. I know it would drive me nuts if I was trying to follow along. 4y
Sweetkokoro @DGRachel Covers were the only differences I have ever thought happened, now I‘m rethinking everything I thought I knew haha. It‘s Driving me insane, I like the book so far but I wanted to follow closer with the read along but I‘ll just get confused if I do that, so I have to pick between them now haha. 4y
DGRachel I think it happens more with middle grade or YA books that are originally written for a UK audience. For some reason publishers don‘t think American kids can handle reading “jumper” instead of “sweater”. 🙄 But I also read that Hex was changed by the author when it was translated. HexSweetkokoro @DGRachel I find the changes silly my self, after searching for an hour, I found out in the UK version Ash, the main character is 15, while the US version he is 13, so clearly I have the UK audiobook. I don‘t understand why such drastic differences were made. And that‘s really weird about HEx, maybe the author didn‘t like their original ending lol. 4y
Sweetkokoro @DGRachel I‘m starting to think what made the changes so drastic for this book is, it was originally a UK YA book, while the US version was changed to be Middle Grade, which explains why they changed the boys age. I just don‘t understand why such a change was needed. 4y
DGRachel Interesting. I assume it was a decision made by the publisher for marketing reasons, which is something I will never understand. I‘m sorry you‘ve essentially got two different stories to try to reconcile. 4y
