This was my first Heyer novel but not my last. Heyer‘s use of the English language is enchanting. The narrative is witty, cleverly unfolds and flows beautifully. Each character is distinctive and well developed, and there are many of them. I was even thoroughly charmed by a mare named Jenny. It‘s devilishly well plotted and paced. It‘s hard to believe she was only 17 when she first penned this novel. #AudioRead #AudibleEscape

She has me giggling! This might even have garnished a slight snort. My very first Heyer book and it is wonderful. #AudioRead #CurrentlyReading

My #booksale #bookhaul in all it‘s glory... @SquidgetsRoom it wouldn‘t have been possible without you, thanks 😂😉 #CJWolfe

I‘ve never read Georgette Heyer before so I thought I‘d give her a try and as an added bonus I randomly managed to select the very first book she had published! Super excited about scoring the rest of the #Poldark series.

DivineDiana Great haul! And I love that you found Georgette Heyer‘s first book! 9mo

Ugh. It‘s 4am and I‘ve been awake for half an hour. Jetlag!! Hopefully reading a bit will help.

JacqMac Jet lag is rough. I hope you get over it quickly. 2y
Jeg The best thing about jet lag for me is the extra reading time it gives me. More coming up soon when we wing it to SAN Fran then over to Sth Carolina to visit granddaughter. 2y

A disgraced Lord who took the blamed for his brother's cheating at cards turns to life as a highwayman. Then he stumbles across a damsel in distress as she is about to be kidnapped. What unfolds is Georgette Heyer's first novel. Definitely working on getting her legs in this one and managing to sparkle anyway!

MayJasper I love Georgette Heyer. I read many of her books several decades ago voraciously. I recently came back to a couple and enjoyed them even more. Feel good books, excellent mood raisers. 3y

Finally got around to reading Heyer's first book, and it did not disappoint! Tracy's habit of abducting women and forcing his attentions on them was a bit off-putting though. Why is Jack all like, oh that Tracy, he's terrible to women but not a bad bloke overall? No, Jack! It's terrible, and he's terrible! So pick up your sword and duel this guy to the death already! Casual mistreatment of women aside, a very enjoyable story.
