Pickpick

I was intrigued by the title of Love Poems from God and it was really cute. Some of the poems were more compelling than others for me, but that's the way of poetry. An altogether interesting selection of poets over the centuries too. It was surprising and exactly what I expected somehow.

I have to admit, this one made me laugh. These poems are in no way what I could have imagined from their authors. I definitely had some biases about the old saints and such. This collection has been rather enlightening.

When it comes to poetry, it's hard to ignore religion and such for too long. But also, the concept of this collection caught my attention. It's universal rather than just Christian, and I love seeing work from other religions and cultures too. I'm excited to be starting this one.

This beautiful book contains translations of sacred poetry from both the East and the West. The 12 poets are Rabia, St. Francis of Assisi, Rumi, Meister Eckhart, St. Thomas Aquinas, Hafiz, St. Catherine of Siena, Kabir, Mira, St. Theresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, and Tukaram. The translator has written an introduction to each poet. #alphabetgame #letterL #poetry @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Michael Leunig cartoon: Motoring News. Mr. Curly in his goat-assisted pedal car is asked by a police officer to blow into a tin whistle, whereupon it is discovered that he is driving under the influence of poetry. For this he gains ten merit points.
