Notes from a Feminist Killjoy
Notes from a Feminist Killjoy: Essays on Everyday Life | Erin Wunker
6 posts | 3 read | 13 to read
Erin Wunker is a feminist killjoy, and she thinks you should be one, too. Following in the tradition of Sara Ahmed (the originator of the concept of the "feminist killjoy"), Wunker brings memoir, theory, literary criticism, pop culture, and feminist thinking together in this collection of essays that take up Ahmed's project as a multi-faceted lens through which to read the world from a feminist point of view. Neither totemic nor complete, the non-fiction essays that make up Notes from a Feminist Killjoy: Essays on Everyday Life attempt to think publicly about why we need feminism, and especially why we need the figure of the feminist killjoy, now. From the complicated practices of being a mother and a feminist, to building friendship amongst women as a community-building and -sustaining project, to writing that addresses rape culture from the Canadian context and beyond, Notes from a Feminist Killjoy: Essays on Everyday Life invites the reader into a conversation about gender, feminism, and living in our inequitable world.

"The feminist killjoy takes pleasure in the work of interrupting the patriarchal norms that pass as joys." Loved this book and I just feel like I need to read it again. This is a book that makes me want to be a better person...it's a push in all the right directions. I need to read more, write more, cultivate more bonds with women, and not fall into fear.

Sometimes a sponsored post really just gets you... ??? I love Emily McDowell's stuff.

Everyone has their own style of what kinds of sassy sayings they like on their mugs and tote bags and things. For future reference, I'm 110% there for anything that says things like "fuck the patriarchy" or "feminist killjoy" because alienating dudes is fun. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

mrsmarch I got that targeted ad today too 😂😂 I want that mug even tho I have way too many mugs in my life #givemearefill (edited) 6y

planning on spending the rest of this afternoon carching up on all the news articles that I've saved to Pocket (& been putting off reading) over the last few weeks - most of it is related to politics & other current news, but I know I've also saved some bookish lists & author interviews (like the one above) which I'm looking forward to finally getting around to reading 📖
