I listened and I loved her voice - there was something purely comforting about it (perhaps because she‘s from the PNW?). Her childhood is heartbreaking. Her mother? Yikes. I‘m not familiar with her music, and I got confused by when she was coming out with albums (I didn‘t follow the timeline very well once she was in BC). But I don‘t think I would have stuck with it if I was reading it myself. Something didn‘t attach.

I'm not a very good listener and bought the print edition so I could follow along or reread a little. I'm getting the reading bug back little by little, but it's slow. I found Case's stories relatable and close to home. The stories could have stood on their own with fewer metaphors and similes. #tacoma

Totally fine celebrity memoir, but I honestly expected more from an accomplished lyricist. The final chapter, The Most Tender Love, about horses, power, feminism, and freedom was the strongest by far and felt like the crux of what Case was trying to say throughout.

Again, a famous person‘s memoir that I read without having any idea who the author was prior to reading the book. Neko Case is a singer-songwriter whose early life was defined by her mother‘s lies and raised by her distant father. Obviously, this would have hit harder had I known the artist but I still enjoyed the listen. Some unbelievable choices made by her mother! I‘m going to seek out her songs.
