pickI loved this. Set in France when the pope was in Avignon, during a plague, a young woman tries to increase her medical knowledge while also not being turned into a scapegoat. Highly recommend.

pickEleanore is a herbalist who dreams of more and manages to get an assistantship with the pope‘s doctor when he learns of her skill. Then the black plague arrives in Avignon, putting both of them to the test. I enjoyed this, though I found the doctor‘s name (Guigo) odd and it threw me off at times.
Rich with unforgettable characters, gorgeously drawn, and full of captivating historical drama, Eleanore of Avignon is the story of a healer who risks her life, her freedom, and everything she holds dear to protect her beloved city from the encroaching Black Death.
