Think casting for My Big Fat Greek Wedding but Italian - in a village where the young no longer desire to reside, and hope lies with a white truffle and recent reading of a fortune teller. It had way too many characters (with great Italian names) for me to track but each added to the humor - as did the donkey, Mauritzio 🫏. Slow pick but I think I‘d have enjoyed it more had I slowed down and absorbed the quirkiness of each character.

What a romp! Filled with quirky characters and an absolutely ridiculous end but also a little heart, this is such a sweet book.

It‘s such a gift to be able to travel though a book! “Tartufo” transports readers to a small town in Tuscany, where its residents are as vivid as the book cover. The melodic narration was music to my ears. Sometimes the overly descriptive writing made this feel a little slow and dense, but I‘m still glad I picked up this quirky read. 🎧

#TopReads2025 continues with my February pick 🥁🥁🥁 ‘Tartufo‘ 🙌 I didn‘t have any expectations going in besides the author of ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures‘ recommended it on her Instagram stories and gave a cover blurb. It was very quirky and fun and had some real heartwarming moments too. Don‘t read it if your hungry though, her descriptions of pasta will make your mouth water 🤤🍝

“What does one do upon finding the world‘s biggest epicurean diamond?” This story was a delight from beginning to end! I loved all the characters, their zany personalities and the beautiful setting of the rural medieval village of Lazzarini Boscarino. Definitely a five star read, the cover is just as beautiful as the story inside

I visited the local indie bookstore by my parents‘ house this afternoon. I didn‘t need another book (I mean, I was extremely tempted!) but I still wanted to support them. This springy book sleeve just hopped in my hands 🤩😇

I was drawn to this by the cover and im so glad. This book is so odd and charming. I loved the characters and life in the small Italian village. Delightful.

If you have read Kira Jane Buxton‘s books,you know she is a master of creating unforgettable characters with humor and feeling. This town is a "found family" like no other; you will fall in love with every villager, human and animal alike. Add in the beautiful setting and the food galore; readers will feel like they are a part of every delightful scene. Books like this, which strike every sense, are such a joy to sink into.

The relationships between the villagers and their commitment to their village is a thing of beauty in the hands of Kira Buxton. The massive amounts of description regarding truffles and the bidding for the giant truffle could almost drive a reader insane. Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for an advance digital copy.

This was a delightful story. It is a funny book, but it mostly touches on the power of love, especially the love towards others, your environment, your town.

I am not usually drawn to these types of stories, but something about this one called to me and I‘m so glad I was given the chance to read it.

And the food descriptions had me wanting to jump on a plane and live in Tuscany for a season.
