Simon Savidge has been raving about this all year on his YT channel so I thought I would give it a go, and I am ecstatic I did. This is excellent. Set in Australia sometime before cars, twins Iris and Floyd look for work and become embroiled in a Puma hunt. I thought the language was gorgeous, the way he describes the land is beautiful. The characters were real and complex and I found myself really rooting for the twins through the twists.

ChaoticMissAdventures @squirrelbrain I think you will like it, and it is quick. 250ish pages I sped through it in under a day. I really liked how he tackled First People and the book is very atmospheric. 2w

Ugh! Drivel!

I admit that this is not my thing, but I don‘t think it‘s just a matter of personal taste. I found almost everything about it entirely unconvincing, cliched & predictable. And it was written with such seriousness, not a scrap of wit, while the characters did the stupid stuff that happens in horror movies or survived beatings like the heros of action movies. I would have bailed if I hadn‘t been reading it for book group. #ozfiction

CarolynM @Hooked_on_books It is, isn‘t it. There‘s some decent nature writing in it too. I think Arnott can write, but based on this and the other one of his I‘ve read, I don‘t think he‘s very good at people
