Deep Roots | Nick Sullivan

In the mangroves of Belize, something ancient lies hidden beneath the roots. And when it surfaces, so too will one of man's baser inclinations. The root of all evil: GREED. Boone Fischer and Emily Durand have enjoyed months of quiet on the tiny island of Caye Caulker. After surviving Hurricane Irma and a mountaintop madman, the two divemasters have finally begun to relax. Big mistake. Following on the fins of the best-selling thrillers Deep Shadow and Deep Cut, this third Caribbean action adventure in The Deep Series takes the reader on a whirlwind tour of Belize. From the offshore cayes to distant lagoons, from tropical rivers to jungle ruins lost in time, Boone and Emily race to untangle themselves from a deadly plot that threatens to shatter their lives.

I‘m calling it for June a few days early. Solito took me a while to finish but ended up being my favorite for the month. With this month‘s reading, I‘m still behind the pace for #ReadingTheAmericas2023 but getting closer.

The tagged book is a breezy, sun-soaked mystery/ thriller set in #Belize involving shady characters and ancient Mayan artifacts. I don‘t know if I‘ll read more in the series, but I enjoyed it & learned a bit. Thanks for the rec!

Susanita I did have to laugh when the lead archeologist said they had used “newer satellite software” to help locate the site. Probably the same as was used in 2y
Texreader I‘m glad it was an easy read for you. The series does satisfy a number of Caribbean countries for the challenge 2y

Pickpick

The author spends much time in the Caribbean diving & his experiences inform his graphic depictions of places in his murder mysteries. This is the second book by Sullivan I‘ve read, and third in the series. This time it‘s set in #Belize, with vivid description of the country. Not as good as the first, I was confused as to why the villain targeted the main characters so ruthlessly. The logic didn‘t quite follow for me. Other than that, it was an ⬇️

Texreader enjoyable read with likeable characters. I especially was attuned to his description of Mennonites, having just read Menno Moto & feeling pretty well-versed about its culture (& coincidentally I learned on the History channel tonight that Kraft—the inventor of American cheese—was Mennonite). The author‘s description felt authentic & in his afterword he says he has relatives who are Mennonite. I plan to read more in this series. #readingtheamericas 2y

This is hilarious! The author just threw in a bit of #Belize trivia completely unrelated to the story.

I decided to start a second ebook when I needed a lighter read from my other ebook, The First Man of Rome

The tagged book is set in #Belize. I enjoyed book 1 by this author so I‘m hopeful for this one.
