His life is mostly difficult and bleak and yet he tries to find light and joy in his life even when it‘s impossible. As the great-granddaughter of Jewish emigrants from Kiev, one of whom was born the year these stories were first published, it was fascinating to hear the original inspiration for Fiddler on the Roof and this production captures Tevye‘s humor, tenderness, and grapplings with god and tradition vs humans and love.
