Among the Living (PsyCop #1)
Among the Living (PsyCop #1) | Jordan Castillo Price
3 posts | 10 read | 3 to read
Victor Bayne, the psychic half a PsyCop team, is a gay medium who's more concerned with flying under the radar than in making waves. He hooks up with Jacob Marks, a non-psychic (or 'Stiff') from an adjacent precinct and it seems like his dubious luck has improved, when a serial killer with a gruesome M.O. surfaces--and no one agrees what he looks like. Explicit gay content.

This was fun and cute and I enjoyed the world building that was just a tiny bit out of sync with the real world

This year I planned to take part in multiple book challenges, including scaling the highest peak for #MountTBR, but this happened. I read Black Dog Blues last year and while waiting for Gail Carriger‘s Summage Solution I went down a #fantasy rabbit hole that I have yet to come out of. I have several books from a few of these series ready to go for November. #NoteworthyNovember

jpmcwisemorgan Series - Offbeat Crimes, Angel Martinez; Aura, Bellora Quinn & Angel Martinez; Everlight, Kris Michaels & Patricia A. Knight; Aberrant Magic, Lyn Gala; Psycop, Jordan Castillo Price; Hexworld, Jordan L. Hawk; Whyborne & Griffin, Jordan L. Hawk. (edited) 7y

Mehso-so

Price creates an interesting premise but failed to captivate me with her narrative. Her characters are promising, but not given enough time to be properly developed.

The super-natural elements are fun and the world is interesting. If more time had been taken to get to know the characters, beyond their superficial abilities, I probably would have enjoyed this a lot more.
