From the author of the New York Times bestselling My Dearest Darkest comes another incredible sapphic horror. When four best friends with a hunger for human flesh attend a music festival in the desert they discover a murderous plot to expose and vilify the girls and everyone like them. This summer is going to get gory. Two years ago, a small percentage of population underwent a transformation known as the Hollowing. Those affected were only able to survive by consuming human flesh. The people who went without quickly became feral, turning on their friends and family. Luckily, scientists were able to create a synthetic version of human meat that would satisfy their hunger. As a result, humanity slowly began to return to normal. Cut to Zoey, Celeste, Valeria, and Jasmine, four hollow girls living in Southern California. As a last hurrah before graduation they decide to attend a musical festival in the heart of the desert. They have a cooler filled with seltzer, vodka, and Synflesh... and are ready to party. But on the first night of the festival Val goes feral and ends up killing and eating a boy in one of the bands. As other festival guests start disappearing around them the girls soon discover someone is targeting people like them. And if they can't figure out how to stop it, and soon, no one at the festival is getting out alive.

Dark humor, a zombie apocalypse, and teen cannibals. The plot is decent and fast moving. The characters weren‘t deep but were likable (for cannibals). Horror isn‘t my jam but if it is yours, give it a go.

Again, I don't know how to rate this book....at it's heart it's a queer love story ,that's a fun, entertaining gorefest that's easy to read. The plot holes though are so preposterous that it legitimately takes you out of the story to marvel at the stupidity of them.

ReadingOver50 I really liked this one 4mo
itsjustme40something It was definitely a fun, easy read with 4 great characters and a cute love story...lol...but some of those plot holes were headscratchers 4mo

A fun way to start Spooky Szn! This YA horror is Pretty Little Liars meets iZombie meets True Blood….set at Coachella. A list of trigger warnings is given at the beginning of the novel (& audiobook). The main take away from this 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️visibility novel? Don‘t listen to bands with whiny frontmen. 😅🤷🏻‍♀️🧟‍♀️

Book 134📚 4.8⭐️

Oooo I loved it!!

A virus that turned part of the population into flesh eating ghouls.. but only when they are hungry.

Why not stick thousands of people in the middle of the desert with no where else to go. A good idea until people start find bodies all over the music grounds!

The ghouls reminded me of the Hollows from Miss Peregrines so I was instantly taken by this story!

I really liked the world building. I thought the ghouls were a great creation, and felt that the backstory made sense. The only thing that rang false to me was I don't think they would have been integrated into society as quickly as described in the book. The ending was pretty cool, complete with a secret laboratory. I liked all the main characters, it is a gift to have a group of friends like these four. The book was fantastic 5 stars ⭐️

ShyBookOwl Love the cover! Intrigued by the concept 13mo
