Winter's End
Winter's End: A Mystery | Paige Shelton
5 posts | 4 read
The fourth installment in the gripping, atmospheric Alaska Wild series, Paige Shelton's Winter's End. Its springtime in Benedict, Alaska, and with the warmer weather comes an unseasonably somber local tradition...the annual Death Walk. At the end of each brutal winter, citizens gather downtown and then break into groups to search the community for those who might have somehow gotten stuck at home. Beth Rivers sets off with her friend Orin and dog Gus, toward the cabin of an elderly resident, intending to check on him. When they reach the cabin, the old man is alive, but not in the best shape. Beth stays with him while Orin hurries to town for help, but its not Orin who returns. Gril comes back with shocking news, and it soon becomes clear that Orin has also vanished. When they discover that their friend has been doing some top-secret research, they start to worry hes been exposed, or worse. Meanwhile, Beth continues on her own search, for her father, who allegedly is alive in Mexico, but won't return her calls. Still, she's making progress in healing from her own trauma, though can't quite shake the feeling she's being followed...

This was a solid entry into this series. Tied up some loose ends and we got closure on a big piece of this mystery series.

Excited to see where this series goes and what Beth is up to next. Unfortunately, I have no other back catalog titles in this series-I have to wait till December to get answers to my questions!

Whelp.....
So here's the thing.... The entire book I kept thinking "Man, she sure does leave out a lot of details for being such a good writer!" I kept going back chapters to see if I had missed something. And I did. I missed the three books before this one ?‍♀️ I didn't realize it until I put it in Goodreads.
So it's a little difficult to review but I'm thinking I would have really liked this had I read the first three ?

Finished last week-Book 4 in the Alaska Wild series & another solid entry for this series about a popular mystery/thriller author “hiding out” in rural Benedict, Alaska while the man who kidnapped & terrorized her is at large. It‘s springtime & the annual “Death March” (an event to gather to see if anyone is missing after the winter) brings mystery & murder. It‘s a bit of a transitional book, so I‘m curious to see where the series goes next.

DebinHawaii Also for #SeriesLove2023 📚 Book 5 will be out in December. 1y
TheSpineView Oh the wait!😬 1y
Andrew65 Fantastic. Well done on getting caught up on the series, now the long wait to the next one 👏👏👏 1y

Winter's End is another fascinating read from Paige Shelton. I escaped right into it and had a great time with the residents of Benedict, Alaska.

My library haul for today. I picked up my hold on the tagged book-4th book in the Alaska Wild series #SeriesLove2023
I found up the only copy of non-Disney Bambi my library had to maybe join in #ChildrensClassicRead2023 but it‘s an adapted picture book so🤷🏻‍♀️Then Chasing Plants called to me (it‘s gorgeous!) & my favorite librarian gave me the top 2 books #ARC s she thought I might like (both sound good). Tagging them ⬇️ The book🐔🐔approve!

DebinHawaii @TheBookHippie It‘s only about 50 pages. I‘m going to look at Kindle again. I‘m just too cheap to pay much! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 1y
