This book is my #DoubleSpin for September, but since it's actually three books pressed into one (more than 1000 pages), I'm going to read one book each moth, each being my #DoubleSpin until November.

The first books was Horus Rising, which is also the start of the Horus Heresy series. After reading a couple of pages I already knew this book isn't for beginners in the Warhammer universe. Way to many names and strange expressions. Happily, ⬇

Jari-chan I'm not a newbie and could enjoy this start into a great and blood adventure. But I was surprised by the depth the story develops. The characters are actually thinking critically about the war they're fighting in! Scrutinizing their actions and thoughts. I did not expect this.

I for myself enjoyed indulging this book, once again showing why Dan Abnett is some kind of Warhammer Author God.

Now on the the next volume!

The_Book_Ninja Where should a newbie start. There‘s so many books in this series. I bought the trilogy on a kindle deal but it sounds like I‘ll be throwing myself in the deep end if I attempt to read it 6mo

Jari-chan @The_Book_Ninja You're right, this universe is so immense. I actually did the same and just bought one of the books that had a nice cover. If you just want to start the Warhammer universe and not especially 40K, I can recommend the Felix & Gotrek series to start with. This one also a good guide on where to start: https://www.grimdarkmagazine.com/warhammer-40k-where-to-start-reading/ 6mo
The_Book_Ninja @Jari-chan that‘s useful. Thank you🙌🏼 6mo

Horus Rising is the first chapter in the epic tale of the Horus Heresy series, a galactic civil war that threatened to bring about the extinction of humanity.

Yes, I'm THAT much of a geek! 😂

Don't suppose anyone knows of Warhammer 40,000?

I'm more of a fan of the artwork than anything else but I came across this book series recently and I'm looking forward to reading it! 💫

Bookwomble Yes, I know of Warhammer 40,000, though never played. I prefer boardgames and RPGs 🤓 4y
Anna40 My husband started playing Warhammer role play and is trying to get me on board since there is no one else to play with but Oh My! It's complicated and loooong😣 is Warhammer 40,000 a video game or role play? 4y
TheNeverendingTBR @Bookwomble I used to paint them years ago and I've always loved the artwork so much, I'm so interested in reading this series and learning the backstories to them. 👌 4y

TheNeverendingTBR @Anna40 It's just the same thing but set in the future with different characters and species etc. Super complicated, I know but as I said I basically just love the artwork associated with the whole thing - it's just so cool! 4y
sb3626 My boyfriend loves warhammer! I may have to get this for him 4y
TheNeverendingTBR @sb3626 I think that would be a pleasant surprise! 🙌 4y

Taking a break from one galaxy far far away and heading over to another one. This is an action packed book. Think Die Hard mixed with Star Wars haha. I think I‘m going to enjoy this series.

So my boyfriend was/is hardcore into warhammer miniatures (?) and he kept talking about this book. I know absolutely nothing about the series or game or whatever but HOLY SHIT you guys. I'm going to have to read all of these books now, the first book was stupidly good. Has anyone read The Horus Heresy?

Wonderful! If Warhammer 40k is something you're interested in, this kick starts the lore behind the whole thing.
