The Other Side of Night
The Other Side of Night | Adam Hamdy
A big-hearted, big-brain, novel that you'll finish in three days and think about for the rest of the year. Wonderful. - Stuart Turton Bestselling author Adam Hamdy returns with a story of soulmates torn apart by circumstance and three deaths that haunt the past, present and future. The Other Side of Night is a genre-defying book unlike any you've ever read and a spellbinding novel about love, sacrifice and endless possibilities. David Asha wants to tell you a story about three people: Elliott Asha, his son, broken by a loss that will redeem him. Ben Elmys, a surrogate father and Davids trusted friend, a man who might also be a murderer. Harriet Kealty, a retired detective searching for answers to three mysterious deaths, while also investigating a man who might turn out to be the love of her life. Every word David tells you is true, but you will think it fiction . . . What authors are saying: The pages almost turn themselves and when I was finished I couldnt stop thinking about the storys incredible twists, turns, and surprises - James Patterson 'Remarkable' - Anthony Horowitz A strange, compelling, and ultimately moving head-spinner of a novel - John Connolly 'Absolutely brilliant. I was blown away' - Manda Scott Mind-bending! This intriguing and thought-provoking thriller is a profound exploration of how far some are willing to go in the name of love. A fantastic twist youll never see coming - Liv Constantine 'A brilliant meta-thriller with huge ideas and even greater heart' - Steve Cavanagh One of those rare books that youll still be thinking about long after the last page - Jenny Blackhurst 'An utterly satisfying read' - Ryan Gattis

This book took a turn I never saw coming and I couldn‘t get enough. This is my first book by this author and it won‘t be the last. The mystery and the story was just so good and I couldn‘t put it down.

The concept is good & the twist fantastic, but the journey caused me some issues. I enjoyed Hamdy's writing. He weaves a good story & includes some great introspection. But the nature of the book requires a lot of information to be held back. Unfortunately, this leads to a slow-paced plot & is occasionally confusing. The end made it worth the read & was quite clever, but the mix of genre & the way things come about will not be for every reader.

Okay, that was wild. I read it in about 3 1/2 hours. Only put it down when really necessary. If you like thrillers, check this one out. It‘s like nothing I‘ve read before. And I have to thank @AardvarkBookClub for offering it! I hadn‘t heard of it before seeing it in their monthly selections. #huey #catsoflitsy #sickmas #aardvark

I appear to be celebrating the twelve days of sickmas over here. Not the funnest holiday tradition. However I‘m thrilled to be digging into this one!! The blurb and very “can‘t talk about it without spoilers” reviews have me very intrigued . And I love the special #aardvark edition!! #lennox #catsoflitsy

tpixie Hope you get well soon! I‘ve been sick this week also, finally feeling a little better today, but not quite there. Sucks to take off work for illness, rather than a fun vacation! ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 1y
jen_hayes7 @tpixie Thank you for the well wishes!! I am glad you are doing better today and hope the rest of your recovery is speedy!! ♥️ I wholeheartedly agree; an enjoyable time off of work this is not! Though I am grateful my brain is working well enough to read. 1y

I have NO idea how to review this without spoiling it. I felt compelled to keep turning the pages and it certainly held my attention, but the ending threw me for a big 'ol loop. The only comparison I can think of (and mind you, this is NOT the same situation but just an attempt to give some kind of frame of reference)... If you've read Behind Your Eyes and felt hoodwinked and frustrated by the twist, this book may leave you with similar feelings.

AardvarkBookClub Oooo we love and totally get the comparison 💯 1y
Megabooks Well now I want to read this because that‘s why I loved Behind. Stacked! 1y

I did NOT see these twists coming…a truly unique crime mystery. I don‘t want to say anything more so as to not spoil it for anyone; but I highly recommend this one! #aardvark

swishandflick I'm excited to get to this one!! 1y
AardvarkBookClub This one is so hard to discuss without spoilers 😂😅 1y

This was a weird book to me. What would you do to save the one you loved? That's about all I can say without given away anything.
It's a low pick for me.

In the first half of this interesting novel Hamdy maintains a stranglehold on the story, and it suffers. It felt like he wanted a platform for overwrought images like: “The trees rose like crooked fingers if a god, making patterns in the sunlight” (p. 44) As the story progressed, he let go, and it soared into something much more interesting. Elliot has lost both his mom and dad. Ben Elmo‘s becomes his guardian with a secret that offers redemption.

For me, this book tries to be too many things and ended up as a mishmash. It starts as a mystery/police procedural/courtroom drama with a random romantic storyline thrown in and ends up in wannabe Blake Crouch territory but not done nearly as well. This is not helped by the audiobook, which is read with no nuance. Disappointing.

Tiffiney I have 2 hours left and I'm struggling to finish... 1y

Wow...how do I review this without giving things away. This is a book about family, sacrifice, a disgraced cop searching for love and has the most unique twist I have seen yet. I really enjoyed it even though it became a little confusing at the end and I had to really think it through to be sure I understood it all. This is a new author for me and I will have to check out his other books. 4/5 stars.

Well, I‘m not sure what to say about this book. It‘s really rather strange. It‘s like Dr Who meets Groundhog Day. It starts off like a normal novel and then ends up in fantasy/sci fi land. It‘s interesting if a little confusing and some of the scientific jargon went over my head. However, it‘s quite compelling and definitely thought provoking. It‘s also well written and I liked how the ending brought it all together. I would rate it 3.5⭐️.

Sharing this #aardvark update from one of the book groups I'm in on fb. Looks like we have 2 confirmed picks and 2 of the top contender guesses for one of the clues they gave (I personally am hoping for The Butcher and the Wren which was my guess)

I'm gonna go ahead and say it - I'll be subscribing to give this subscription a try! The tagged book sounds right up my alley. Anyone else thinking about giving Aardvark a go?

jlhammar I'm definitely tempted. I was planning to get the new Kidd and The Other Side of Night also sounds good. 2y
Megabooks I‘m on the fence still. There are three books I really want that are out currently, and I‘m not sure I want to subscribe unless they choose a book I already want. But I may change my mind…🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y
swishandflick @jlhammar Those both have my attention too!! 2y
swishandflick @Megabooks Definitely fair! Certainly can't hurt to see if things launch well too before diving into a new subscription. But for some reason I'm hyped, haha 2y
LMJenkins I think I‘ll definitely give it a try unless there is a big commitment to lock in to further months. Right now I am a member of Literati and Book-of-the-Month club and I think I‘m going to drop Literati. I hate to, because some books I‘ve never heard of come up but I find that they just get added to my TBR pile and a lot of times I‘m paying for a paper back instead of a hard cover. 2y
