"A sexy, emotional, and pitch-perfect romance." NPR on Lush Money Opposites attract in this rivals-to-lovers romance from Lush Money author Angelina M. Lopez Guapo pobrecito her grandmother calls him. The poor handsome man. Professor Jeremiah Post, the poor handsome man, is in fact standing in the way of Alejandra Alex Torres turning Lorettas, her grandmothers bar, into a viable business. The hot brainiac who sleeps in one of the upstairs tenant rooms already has all of her Mexican American familys admiration; she wont let him have the bar and building she needs to resurrect her career, too. Alex blowing into town has rocked Jeremiah to his mild-mannered core, but the large, boisterous Torres clan is everything he never had. He doesnt believe Alex has the best interest of her family, their community, or the bars legacy in mind. To protect all three, hell stand up to the tough and tattooed bartender with whom he now shares a bedroom walland resist the insta-lust they both feel. But when an old enemy threatens Lorettas and the surrounding neighborhood, Alex and Jeremiah must combine forces. It will take her might and his mind to save the home they both desperately need. "Sparks fly and tempers flare in this passionate, un-put-downable rivals-to-lovers romance that launches a sizzling new series...Lopez seamlessly blends high-heat romance with discussions of Alexs heritage and the fascinating history of 19th-century Mexican immigrants to the Kansas plains. This is a treasure." Publishers Weekly, starred review

Reading the Romance Book Club book ahead of time? What a concept! But glad for the kick in the butt to get to this title that‘s been sitting in my owned TBR for way too long.

History, secrets, family, redemption, and love.

This book has a little bit of all these things, plus a enthusiastic, bookish, dirty talking professor and an “unlikeable” heroine.

This was a stunner! Beautifully written with powerful characters and a compelling historical backdrop, I was blown away. The setting is unique (I can‘t recall reading a book set in Kansas in a long time), the pace compulsive and the spice white hot 🔥 From the #happyendingsbookclub from the Nowhere Bookstore #indiebookstore. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #Pantone2023 #fireyred @Clwojick

Alex is a dominant character alongside Jeremiah's large presence and shy demeanor and they show how opposites attract. This book is full of a strong matriarch family, friends, the best bitch in bartending and guapo pobrecito, the poor handsome man. What a beautiful story full of colour, love and hard lessons learned.

obsessed. Alex wants her grandmother‘s bar for redemption purposes & Jeremiah wants it for historical preservation purposes. But when something threatens both plans, they have to work together to save the bar. Would be easier if they didn‘t constantly want to rip each other‘s clothes off. Fantastic Mexican American rep in Kansas where A‘s family has been for generations but are still outsiders. (bonus: some of the best 🌶 I‘ve read)

This is an adult read!🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
I loved the MexAme history. You might have heard of the “bracero” program, but have you heard of the traqueros? Mexican workers that built the railroads in the US. Eventually, MexAm family settlements formed throughout the Midwest because of the railroad.
This goes into how these families held on to their culture & heritage. This is little known MexAm!history that BUILT THIS PROSPEROUS COUNTRY!

Full disclosure: I am predisposed to like books by this author, aka, very biased.
That said, I was really fascinated by this story. Both main characters have big stuff they are holding onto that have shaped how they approach the world, and watching them bang into each other (on several levels) and fight over how to best serve the people and the tiny town and also satisfy a cranky ghost, was enjoyable.
