(2022) Here's a creepy novella about a woman on her first solo trip since her recent divorce, driving through ice and snow of a West Virginia winter and about the things she met there. It's part Mothman, part The Descent, part girl power. I'm not sure now what it was all about, but it was pretty effective in the moment. Someone oughtta make a creature feature.

Bookwomble "Creepy" was the word I thought when I saw that cover! Isn't it great? ? 8mo
swynn @Bookwomble Right? It's by Trevor Henderson, who does terrific work: https://trevorhenderson.com 8mo
mandarchy Along with Godzilla, my son is obsessed with Mothman and follows Trevor Henderson - he often makes clay Hendersonesque creations and they are creepy to find around the house. 8mo

Abby is on her way to meet friends at a horror convention when she encounters a snow storm and the big rig in front of her goes over the side of a bridge in the dark. She decides to climb down to see if she can help and things get scary. This was great. This was like a little nesting doll of horror. When you think she cannot put anything else in here she does and it‘s wonderful. Surprise after surprise in 122 pages. Pick!

batsy At first glance it totally looks like there's a face and the shape of a person in the laundry machine so I'm going to pretend I didn't see it 😆 1y
Reggie @batsy is it the Pocahontas face at the very top middle? That‘s who I see now that you made me look! Lol also, I think you would like this book because low key it‘s how the patriarchy lessens women and how it takes over their thoughts and this is one woman‘s fight against it by way of cryptids. 1y
batsy @Reggie Oh my god, yes. Now I feel so much better 🤣🤣 Thanks for the rec, I just added it to my list recently because of a previous review on Litsy! I'm glad it was a pick for you, too. 1y

kspenmoll I see the face!!!! Great review! Should I try it?! Horror usually leaves me with nightmares & I cannot get visuals out of my head!!!! 1y
Reggie @kspenmoll as much as I want everyone to read more horror, if that‘s what happens to you I would stay away. Because there are definitely some visuals in here that would haunt you. And there were some parts in here that jump scared me. I‘m glad you saw the face. Lol 1y
vivastory I just watched Sick on peacock. Have you seen it? 1y
Reggie @vivastory I have not. Is it good? 1y
vivastory I liked it. I can see it being a bit controversial. I recommend going in blind. Kevin Williamson is one of the screenwriters. 1y

A horror novella where everything that could go wrong does go wrong. Abby is on a road trip to meet some friends. Unfortunately, a huge blizzard comes up and makes the drive treacherous. Add to that she witnesses a truck accident and decides to help out the driver. This turns into a terrible adventure involving cryptids and the strange cargo in the truck. The story was very interesting and a fast read. I really enjoyed the book.

psalva I‘m glad to be reminded of this book. I heard about it on the Books in the Freezer podcast, which covers horror books, and I meant to to add it to my stack then. I‘m glad to hear it‘s worth a read. 1y
ReadingOver50 @psalva I listen to that podcast too 😄 1y
