The Big Dark Sky
The Big Dark Sky | Dean Koontz
9 posts | 7 read | 2 to read
A group of strangers bound by terrifying synchronicity becomes humankind's hope of survival in an exhilarating, twist-filled novel by Dean Koontz, the #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense. As a girl, Joanna Chase thrived on Rustling Willows Ranch in Montana until tragedy upended her life. Now thirty-four and living in Santa Fe with only misty memories of the past, she begins to receive pleas--by phone, through her TV, in her dreams: I am in a dark place, Jojo. Please come and help me. Heeding the disturbing appeals, Joanna is compelled to return to Montana, and to a strange childhood companion she had long forgotten. She isn't the only one drawn to the Montana farmstead. People from all walks of life have converged at the remote ranch. They are haunted, on the run, obsessed, and seeking answers to the same omniscient danger Joanna came to confront. All the while, on the outskirts of Rustling Willows, a madman lurks with a vision to save the future. Mass murder is the only way to see his frightening manifesto come to pass. Through a bizarre twist of seemingly coincidental circumstances, a band of strangers now find themselves under Montana's big dark sky. Their lives entwined, they face an encroaching horror. Unless they can defeat this threat, it will spell the end for humanity.

#September #bookspin #doublespin selections, queued up and ready to go!

Dralex090 @CSeydel … which book are you reading this month. Share with me, I need to keep my mind busy now I am tracking 3mo
CSeydel @Dralex090 I am planning to read both of these in September. The game is that each month, you make a list of up to 20 books that you‘re considering reading. Then @TheAromaofBooks randomly chooses two numbers and those are your “bookspin” and “Doublespin” picks for the month. It‘s just a fun way to organize your reading 3mo
Dralex090 @CSeydel … ok interesting platform. I am still finding it hard to understand this app, thanks for your response. Which country are you writings from ? 3mo

I picked this one up yesterday in PA. Koontz was once one of my favorite authors, but it has been a while since I really loved one of his books. 🤞 on this one.

Many authors put you on a roller coaster, rolling you through the ups and downs of a story until the biggest drop and then a long coast to recover. This book is more like a drop tower, a slow crank upwards and then the exhilarating single huge drop of a climax at the end. You don‘t have much of a coast afterwards but all the storylines are sufficiently closed that you can imagine the rest. A solid suspense.

Mehso-so

Humanity is threatened with extinction ... not a surprise for Koontz readers. It takes around 300 pages for the the actual threat to be revealed although evil doers pop up along the way. It felt a bit like King‘s “The Stand” without the character development and satisfying plot. The title is indicative of the problem: a minor plot line struggling to be more. Not one of his best, but like popcorn, you just keep putting your hand in the bag.

This felt like a mix between classic Dean Koontz and Stephen King's The Stand, while not being quite as good as either of those... overall, it was a quick read and I did enjoy it but I was a little disappointed with the ending.

𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠

Relaxing at home & enjoying 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐒𝐤𝐲 by 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐊𝐨𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐳. His name is on the long list of authors whose books I read automatically. I don't even read the synopses. I just dive in! And am engrossed.

𝘐𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘶𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮, 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘯𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘺𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘴𝘪𝘴?

Ruthiella There are quite a few authors whose books I‘d buy at a library sale or thrift store where the pain threshold is low. But Kate Atkinson and Sarah Waters are two where I preorder without knowing what it‘s about. The fact that they wrote ‘em is enough!😃 3y
