A gripping debut domestic suspense novel, Nora Murphy's thrilling The Favor explores with compassion and depth what can happen when women pushed to the limit take matters into their own hands. Staying is dangerous. Leaving could be worse. Leah and McKenna have never met, though they have parallel lives. They don't--ever--find themselves in the same train carriage or meet accidentally at the gym or the coffee shop. They don't--ever--discuss their problems and find common ground. They don't--ever--acknowledge to each other that although their lives have all the trappings of success, wealth and happiness, they are, in fact, trapped. Because Leah understands that what's inside a home can be more dangerous than what's outside. Driving past McKenna's house one night, she sees what she knows only too well from her own marriage: McKenna's "perfect" husband is not what he seems. Leah decides to keep watch over McKenna, until one night, she intervenes, and sets into motion events that will change both their lives forever. Leah and McKenna have never met. But they will.

4½⭐
What a stunning debut this turned out to be. At first, in the beginning, I was thinking…where could this be going; then something happened that I was totally not expecting. From that point on I was hooked. This one is best to go into blind…although the synopsis doesn‘t give too much away…so you might be good if you‘ve already read it. It also has a main character whose name is Leah…I‘m a sucker for a character with my name.

I have seen that woman before, but where?

That is the question McKenna asked herself when she saw Leah shoot her husband.

This book grabbed me from the very beginning and kept me on edge. I wanted to just escape someplace where I would have no interruptions while reading it. I could feel for myself the fear and hopelessness the main characters experienced. It is hard to believe that this is Murphy‘s debut novel.

Fantastic Debut!!

REVIEW 5/31

I have seen that woman before, but where?

That is the question McKenna asked herself when she saw Leah shoot her husband.

Why would she do that? She did say she is the same as me, but what did that mean?

Ms. Murphy did an amazing job of keeping you guessing and writing a fantastic thriller.

Be aware that THE FAVOR does vividly picture domestic abuse. 5/5

This is a sparkling debut novel about Leah and McKenna, two married women who don‘t know each other. But each decides to do the other a “favor” as their husbands are abusive. That‘s all you need; go in blind and expect the unexpected as these two show their strength and determination!
Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. Out May 31st.

This is about spousal abuse and how women end up getting trapped in situations they never imagined would happen to them. It also has Patricia Highsmith vibes.
