The City of Zirdai
The City of Zirdai | Maria V. Snyder
3 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
It's suicide, Shyla. You're the prize they want. Through her courage and tenacity, Shyla Sun-Kissed has awoken the power of The Eyes of Tamburah. But this feat only marks the beginning of the challenges that the magical order, the Invisible Sword, faces to free the underground city of Zirdai. Though they have allies among the monks and splinter cells inside the city, Shyla knows the Invisible Sword doesn't have the strength to win. With the group fracturing due to the strain of losses from their latest ordeal, thinly veiled suspicions and endless disagreements, it's up to Shyla to forge a new united order. When both the draconian Water Prince and brutal Heliacal Priestess learn of Shyla's new powers, life becomes even more complicated as they will stop at nothing to capture Shyla and take the magic of The Eyes for themselves. Hunted at every turn and unable to hide, Shyla and the Invisible Sword must use every resource at their command - and unearth new ones - in their race to save the city from destruction. But their enemies always seem to be one step ahead. And the cost to win the battle may be more than Shyla would ever be willing to pay...

Review binge incoming...
The second book in the Archives of the Invisible Sword trilogy is pretty much more of the first book. If you enjoyed the borderline-frenetic pacing, an almost absurd number of secret societies, double-crossers, and betrayals, and the just thoroughly likable characters of the first book, you'll still enjoy them here. This is technically adult fantasy (characters in their early 20s), but no spicy scenes, and I'm here for it⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) There are definitely some moments of impracticality in this story, especially concerning how many injuries one person can sustain and keep going, but I still really enjoyed this one. It's such a creative and interesting world, and I just loved these characters.

Andrew65 You‘ll doing brilliantly 👏👏👏 10mo
Chrissyreadit it sounds like some books i must add to my tbr 10mo
TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit - I really love Snyder's books. Her Chronicles of Ixia (a series of three connected trilogies) are some of my favorite books. Like I said, these were a bit over-the-top as to how many times one person could get injured/double-crossed, but still a lot of fun 😂 10mo
Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks I added 2 of her books to my kindle app- it‘s my go to for reading on the run- and am excited- this is a literal new to me author. 10mo
TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit - Oh yay!! I hope you enjoy them!! I mostly recommend making sure that you read any series of hers in order - the books do build on one another. 10mo
Chrissyreadit Perfect- I downloaded The Eyes of Tamburah and Touch of Power - are those both first books? 10mo
TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit - Yes!! Eyes is the first book in this series that I just finished. The other one is the first in her only series that I haven't read yet (the Healer books) so I'll be especially interested to hear how you like it!!! 10mo

Pretty solid #BookReport, although not as far along with my #BacklistReadathon progress as I was hoping to be, mostly because each of these books is just shy of 500pgs haha I finished the CL books last weekend, then picked up The Fallen Architect for #14books14weeks2023 - I got about 100pgs in and just wasn't jiving so I decided to #hailthebail and move on 😂 I am really enjoying the Archive of the Invisible Sword trilogy so far - hoping to ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) finish the tagged book today and start the finale!!

Well that was a roller-coaster. The City of Zirdai is book two of Maria V Snyder's Archives of the Invisible Sword trilogy.

Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, BOOM. PLOT TWIST! It is pretty rare for me to be as shocked as I was for some of these twist and turns and it really kept me guessing!
