I really liked this. It had some magical parts in it as well but a good kind. It‘s also dual perspective about twins who are colored but one is able to pass for white, never realizing the truth until her grandmother passes.

This girl wants to dig up bodies and move them somewhere else (later revealed to be a swamp) just for being colored. This book is set in the 50‘s but I hope no one actually tried to make that happen. Girl can‘t even let them rest in peace? 😡
“For colored girls, there‘s no such thing as happily ever after”. Yikes. I know this book is set during the 50‘s, but I‘m glad some things have changed since then.
A riveting read for YA and adults. This book is a mishmash of historical fiction, romance, thriller, paranormal, fantasy.
This is a dark story with spirits and curses that the sisters struggle to understand. The ghosts of the slaves are demanding to be heard, to be freed. There are strong secondary characters that the sisters will need to help them fight the family curse.
