The tent door flutters in the warm breeze, opening towards the silent woods beyond. A silk eye mask lies on top of the empty sleeping bag, blood-red spots ruining the cream fabric When a woman disappears from Forest Pines campsite, Detective Morgan Brookes scrambles a search party. Sara Fletcher has never missed a lunch date with her best friend and when Morgan finds a large rip in Saras tent, she knows that something terrible must have happened. About to lose hope after hours combing through the acres of dense forest, the excited bark of a tracker dog leads Morgan to female remains, partially covered by leaves and dirt but the bones dont belong to Sara. Morgan trawls through missing persons files until she finds three cold cases with chilling similarities three other victims dating back twenty years who were taken from campsites while they slept, by a killer the police called The Travelling Man. The post-mortems indicate he kept them alive for 72 hours, meaning every second is crucial to find Sara alive. Morgans team is terrified that this twisted murderer has returned. But Morgan also cant ignore the fact that a merciless killer from her own past has recently escaped from prison Could they be chasing the wrong man? If shes correct, how deep will she have to dig to save Sara and other innocent women like her before time runs out for them all? A completely unputdownable, heart-in-your-mouth crime thriller. A woman goes missing from a tent in a remote campsite in the Lake District overnight and when searching for her in the forest the police discover a body that seems to have been there for years. Could these bodies be connected and do they have a serial killer on their hands? Morgan and her team are then contacted by a retired policeman who says ‘The Travelling Man‘ is responsible and keeps them alive for 72 hours.

Andrew65 Cue a fast paced crime thriller in which Morgan and her colleagues race against time to catch a serial killer before he kills the woman he has abducted. This is a book that you don‘t want to put down as you need to know what happens next and if they will rescue the victim before she is killed, or before he sets out to abduct another woman. 2y
Andrew65 This is the fifth book in the series but is as addictive as the other books in the series and is a great read. During it Morgan‘s past comes back to haunt her and relationships within the team develop. But Morgan being Morgan we know she can be her own worst enemy and is prepared to put her life on the line to catch a killer but there are a few surprises and shocks awaiting her. 2y
Andrew65 This is an excellent story which had me gripped throughout and I strongly recommend it to any avid readers of fast paced and action driven crime fiction. Morgan is a great character and you won‘t be sorry you picked the book up. I can‘t wait to read the next one.

Thanks to the publisher, author and Net Galley for a review copy of the book in exchange for a fair, open and honest review.

Started this book in the Detective Morgan Brookes Series. Read the prologue and has me hooked.

Wasn‘t in the original plan but this is what I‘ll be starting #20in4 off with.

This was my first Helen Phifer book but won't be my last. When Sara Fletcher goes missing from a Forest Pines campsite it proves that women should not go camping alone. Three other women have disappeared in the past and The Traveling Man has been blamed. He usually waits 72 hours before killing his victim so time is running short. The book is full of suspense which makes this fast-paced plot unputdownable.

EadieB I guessed the killer even though there were plenty of twists. I enjoyed learning about Det. Morgan Brooks and Det. Ben Matthews' relationship and look forward to the next book in order to see what develops. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a copy of the ebook for an honest opinion. #BookSpinBingo 2y
