Dark Horse: An Orphan X Novel
Dark Horse: An Orphan X Novel | Gregg Hurwitz
11 posts | 10 read | 1 to read
Gregg Hurwitz's New York Times bestselling series returns when Orphan X faces his most challenging mission ever in Dark Horse. Evan Smoak is a man with many identities and a challenging past. As Orphan X, he was a government assassin for the off-the-books Orphan Program. After he broke with the Program, he adopted a new name and a new mission--The Nowhere Man, helping the most desperate in their times of trouble. Having just survived an attack on his life and the complete devastation of his base of operations, as well as his complicated (and deepening) relationship with his neighbor Mia Hall, Evan isn't interested in taking on a new mission. But one finds him anyway. Aragon Urrea is a kingpin of a major drug-dealing operation in South Texas. He's also the patron of the local area--supplying employment in legitimate operations, providing help to the helpless, rough justice to the downtrodden, and a future to a people normally with little hope. He's complicated--a not completely good man, who does bad things for often good reasons. However, for all his money and power, he is helpless when one of the most vicious cartels kidnaps his innocent eighteen year old daughter, spiriting her away into the armored complex that is their headquarters in Mexico. With no other way to rescue his daughter, he turns to The Nowhere Man. Now not only must Evan figure out how to get into the impregnable fortress of a heavily armed, deeply paranoid cartel leader, but he must decide if he should help a very bad man--no matter how just the cause.

I love this series. I am always hooked from the first page as X flies into another mission to save those who deserve his help. In this instalment, X is thrown into the world of Cartels but do they deserve his help or has he just started a war? Another good romp out with Orphan X doing what he does best as the Nowhere Man. Hurwitz writes believable but unbelievable action into his books, which keep you pressing onto the next chapter.

Something is wrong with me. I must be broken. Where are my Orphan X fans at? I need someone to talk me into finishing this. I‘ve hit page 66 and I‘m…bored? Maybe it‘s the cartel plot that makes me want to hurl the book against a wall. I don‘t know. I‘m devastated. (and maybe a little overdramatic. 😂)

Book 7 in the series still keeping me on the edge of my seat, as The Nowhere Man attempts his most challenging case to date. When the beloved daughter of Aragon Urrea is abducted by a ruthless drug cartel, the only one who may be able to rescue her is orphan X, but will he take this case when the father himself is heavily involved in the drug industry? Full of edge of seat thrills and the kind of epic kick assing that only Orphan X can deliver.

Evan is the “Nowhere Man“ that helps those that have no other choice. The head of a cartel's daughter has been taken by a rival cartel.
This is my first read by Gregg Hurwitz, and though this is the seventh book in a series. I was not lost as to what was going on. I look forward to read the other books in the series.
I enjoyed the fast pace and moments of comic relief. I would compare this to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series.

There‘s nothing subtle about these books! All action, violent revenge/rescue stories. A great afternoon‘s exciting read. The personal side story just got really interesting. And the last chapter 😱 Love Evan, a great MC.

Deblovestoread I love Baldacci‘s quote 😊 2y

This is the 7th book in the Orphan X series and I really enjoyed it. It is a fun, albeit very violent, series that gives us a hero to root for. The main character, Evan Smoak, was trained as a government operative, but now uses his skill to help people. This one seemed to test Evan's sense of morality more than previous books as he has chosen to help a drug kingpin rescue his kidnapped daughter. I stayed up too late finishing it…5/5 stars.

Well I truly loved this #audiobook! I hardly ever start a series from anywhere but the beginning, but I was invited to listen this 7th book in the #OrphanXSeries so I dove in! And I can‘t believe how much I enjoyed this- full of action, but also characters and dialogue that made me laugh and moments of more depth than I expected- not to mention cool gadgets and technology! I never felt lost starting here but now I‘m so excited to read the first 6!

🎧 Book 7 of the Orphan X series. 🖤 Evan Smoak (The Nowhere Man).

A bit morally grey, basically good.

This is my 1st Orphan X book & I loved it. I‘ll be going back & starting this series from book 1!

The story starts slowly but I learned a lot about the characters & the plot is clearly laid out.

A bad man‘s daughter is taken.

Evan‘s contacted & agrees to rescue her. If only it was as easy as it sounds 😆 Love Evan‘s tech support!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Twainy @TrishB 😄 true! I read the summary & thought, I need to read this now or I might never get around to it cuz what could be better?! I was definitely in the mood for it. Now I‘m motivated to go back & read them all!! If only there was more time in the day! 2y
